Yellow gold or Rose gold Sky-dweller/DayDate
Hi TRF friends! I am thinking to make a a gold watch addition to the humble collection of few steel watches. Options are Day Date 40 and Sky Dweller, but so far can't decide for sure about the metal. I love yellow gold but my only concern is that it might be too flashy so I will only wear it on certain occasions (i. e. won't have much wrist time). Rose gold is not that eye-catching comparing to yg so can be somehow considered "under radar. I understand that Sky has the most complicated Rolex movement and higher price tag, so this question is mostly about gold choice. Choosing Yellow or Rose metal, please explain why in few words, interested to hear your thoughts on that! Thank you and Happy Memorial Day!

What solid steel watches do you have? Personally the SkyD is too big for me but if you can rock it and don’t have a GMT complication and travel frequently enough it could be a worthwhile addition. I would go DD myself. Also my preference is rose gold.

To be honest ALL of them are heavy hitter pieces.
Just pick the ones you like most and get them. |

Whichever you like the most. After all, it's your money and you'll be wearing it.
Of your selection I would go RG Sky Dweller. But for myself, it would be the white or slate dial. There isn't a DD dial/material configuration that I particularly like at the moment. RG or WG green dial with just the standard indices would be hard to look past. |

YG with diamonds is my choice of those provided. I would go with WG with the olive dial or YG with the white dial and romans if my choice of models available.

Out of those options only I would vote for the DD 40 black dial.

If its your first PM piece just get the YG DD40 in whatever dial you want.
That is the quintessential gold piece that is most iconic and history. You can never ever go wrong with a YG DD40. That is a true lifetime watch. |

I personally like YG over RG. For me, it would depend on my collection, as to which I’d get ...DD vs SKD. I’ve had both, and have a YG SKD in my collection right now. No wrong choice here. Good luck!

this is too hard of a poll lol. i think your first step would be to narrow down the color of the gold because all are great choices. i prefer yg over rolex's rg so i would go with yg first i think
my choices would be rg olive day date or yg day date with baguettes. for sky dwellers my personal favorite is the rose gold rhodium dial |

If first/only PM piece, I think YG DD 40. All dials are fine IMO, but I don't think you would ever regret black sticks.

I went with a yellow gold sky blackface last year and LOVE it more & more each day. The trend & hype will say DD 40 green. But go with what YOU love & lean towards most, regardless of the vote count.

I have the RG Olive DD and would still pick it over the other options. The Sky Dweller is just too big for me. YG is more definitely flashy.

I know I run against the grain on this one, but the RG/Olive DD doesn’t do it for me. I also am a fan of the SKD, though I agree that the DD is the classic as between the two of them. And I am a fan of the RG over the YG (though, ironically, I own YG and WG in PM, but not RG (yet)). So I have to go with the RG SKY with the chocolate dial, which I think is beautiful with the RG, right up there with the rhodium dial, but warmer.
But this is all simply further proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Fundamentally, you need to go with what sings to you!

But, since you ask ... I definitely vote DD - In virtually any dial, size, or gold color, it remains an ageless and classic object of desire. Adding both the baguette markers and the (relatively subtle Eisenkiesel) stone dial makes it the clear winner here for me. Baguette markers, rose gold, and stone dials have always been pretty rare in DDs (this may be the first DD ever with all three), and the stone dials only seem to grow more desirable with the passage of time. You might be surprised by how quickly it becomes your everyday watch ... |

I have both in rose gold. Both chocolate dial. Creature of habit I guess, I think the color combo woks best for me.
You can’t go wrong with any of your choices. |

Buy what you want and whatever that sings to you... Not based on the votes or hype.
YG DD40 gets my vote as yellow gold blends beautifully with my skin tone. |

Full disclosure: You really need to see the Everose Sky-Dweller in person. It is one of those watches even the best pics don’t come close to how powerful and rich it looks.
