Discount

What level of discount are folks experiencing in regard to Grand Seiko purchases? Or, is this a taboo subject? I got 8% on a Snowflake which, at the time, I was happy with.

I paid full price in the Seiko Boutique in London a couple of weeks ago for the SBGA401. Boutique-only model, there are about 10 on Chrono24 but not in the UK, so by the time I added 20% import sales tax from Japan or US the price was coming about the same. Also the first service is included, no idea if it would have been if I had sourced it from elsewhere. Oh and a couple of free GS-branded covid masks

To be honest I didn't really try to push for a discount. I really wanted to get it there and then due to travelling the next day, and importantly I was able to walk out of the shop with it which made it better than shopping around online; and as it was a surprise gift for my Dad, the sales guy said he would let me bring it back to switch it for another model just in case he preferred a different one. Fortunately he loved it.

No wrist shots unfortunately but will do some at some point. Like most GS models it looks way nicer in real life than on the online catalog shots.

Like with many brands, anecdotally it's easier to get a discount from ADs than from their own boutiques, especially if you are looking at something they only sell in the boutiques so they have more limited competition.

No discounts at GS Boutiques, as usual, but you can get some extra goodies, including straps and extended warranty.

I also inquired about possible discounts at Watches of Switzerland and Mayors. Both said no discounts on GS watches, although YMMV.

A lot of AD's don't move much either, but some do. Just have to ask around.

Just bought a Tudor and a Grand Seiko in the past weeks.
Grand Seiko - no way, no how, especially the Seasons SD line. The AD said this is GS policy.
Tudor, I received 12% on an Advisor (not a popular model.) Same AD, by the way.
And I received no perks with either watch (your AD may vary.)

"The AD said this is GS policy."

On a particular model or in general? If in general he is lying.

Was checking out the new white birch GS at my AD and my SA offered me 10% without me asking, can probably push more.

I had contacted a few ADs. Mostly got something to the tune of "Hard to come by", "Only have one and the price is the price", etc. One, however, said to call and he quoted the deal I referred to. It pays to check around. Except Rolex of course.

I got the discount amounting to the amount of tax off a couple months ago for the sbgw231 and also have found ~15% off on the skyflake through grey market relationship with an AD around the same timeframe. It can be had, and I think speaks to why the re-sale value on most GS models is not great.

Nowadays I think you will be very lucky to get any discount and any watch.
