Is this one real or not??? Daytona
Hi my name is Edwin
I got a Rolex Daytona Model #116520, and I've been searching on the internet to see if its real or not, ive been to 3 jewelry stores 2 said it was real and 1 said it was a replica. one of the stores that said it was real told me he needed to keep it a few days to see if its real or not. here are some pictures of the watch |

Hi Edwin,
Let's start with a simple question that may save you a little bit of time. Is there anything written on the back of the case? |

ok...Can you post better pictures? If not carefully try to peel off the hologram and if it has any writing under the hologram such as "Winner Rolex 24 ad Daytona" then it is a replica. That's one quick and easy way to check.

Hi Edwin,
Here's another quick check...try unscrewing the two outer crowns, press the upper one and see if the large second hand either starts to move or stops it if it's already moving....the lower button should return the second hand to the 12 o'clock position.....the full size second hand should only move if the chronograph function is running, it looks to be either parked up at 54 seconds or moving already.....also as an aside, the main central winding crown appears to be missing, considering this there is no way to manually wind the watch, therefore to give it some "life" you will have to give it a bit of movement in your hands for a while to get the rotor to wind it sufficiently to run in the first place....

At first glance I want to say yes, but I'm not a Daytona expert. Better pics are needed but the serial# being there when the bracelet is removed is a good sign. Also, it doesn't have the dead give away "Rolex 24 Winner" on the case back.
If this is legit, and by this, I mean your story, I would NOT leave it with anyone other than Rolex Service Co. for a few days. They should be able to tell within reason on the spot.

Now that you mention that Jay, the font on the dial doesn't look right to me either...Could just be the picture though? Guys, anyone else wanna chime in on this one?

I am going to say no, its not real. They serial number and ref number is too clear, and the clasp is marked 18K and the case is marked stainless steel.

Sorry Edwin, I'm going to have to say it's not real judging by the photos. The important thing though I think is it came from your uncle...Hopefully it will bring you fond memories of him.

It don't look right to me
What happened to the lume on the dial and 9 & 10 O'Clock and the Crown is missing too. The bracelet should definitely not say 18K on a SS model. Since when did the "Y" serial numbers have 7 numbers after the "Y", it has always been 6 numbers after the letter.

Definitely a fake. The bezel is turned sideways. The bezel on a Daytona does not turn.

Pics make all the difference. I'm afraid I think it's a fake too after seeing those with the rotated bezel. Sorry about your uncle.

Also note that the bezel is in totally the wrong orientation.....400 units per hours is at around 26.5 minutes???????.....I hope I am wrong in saying no as well.....but there are just too many things wrong

That was the first thing I noticed when I clicked on the thread and saw the initial dial shot. I didn't even notice the missing lume at 9 and 10 o'clock and the missing crown until someone else mentioned it.

It's major fake. Laser engraving also on the case. Fake sticker too. Plus, the band stampings as Steve noted. Then there is the bezel.
