Rainy afternoon so played around with a few more photos.....

The Seiko 5 lume shot.....

And with a few more of my favourite things.....

And looking at the Calibre 65 movement of my Panoreserve......

Inversion!

And some fantastic detail.....love those gold chatons!

Excellent pictures Al glad you still like the Seiko, not in the same league as the Panoreserve,but remarkable value for money.

Wow, outstanding pix. That first Seiko pic looks like it belongs in one of their catalogues! Great stuff!

Thanks Chip - I'll consider that high praise coming from the master!!

I actually used some of your "tips" for doing this shot and I can see that this is the way to go. Not nearly as good as yours, but I don't actually have photoshop but another program that is a bit limited in comparison (that and the fact it was my first try at this so some practice is needed). I am considering photoshop or maybe photoshop "elements" to do the basics - any suggestions what to get?

Well.... Photoshop can never replace a well taken photograph, and there isn't much that photoshop can do to improve a well taken photo.

In your case, I was not able to make your pic look better by using photoshop.
That tells me that your pic is a very well taken pic.

Ansel Adams had no photoshop and his cameras were equivalent to a 10 dollar throw away camera of today. And look at his work.

It is all in the use of light, and in showing the camera sensor a picture worth seeing.

And your image has both qualities.

Adams was a good shooter, but not a spectacular one. He used extremely large format plates, which really helps the detail in the grain of the silver.

However, Adams was a jedi-master of the darkroom in the way that few photographers before or since did the tricks he did. When I was in journalism school years back, we processed our own film and exposed our own shots. Learning the art of dodging and burning and even 'silvering' was an education on it's own.

Chip is right, there's not much photoshop can do to improve a really good shot, and that Seiko shot is about as good as it gets. Nicely done, again, Al.
