An observation about "incomings"

I've noticed that there are a lot more "incoming" threads for new BLRO/BLNR GMTs, skydwellers, daydates, etc., but far fewer threads announcing new stainless steel subs. Do others agree?

I'm not sure what to make of that. Is this a demand/forum preference? Indicative of less supply? Just seems odd to me.

Not sure why but I wouldn’t say a sub is that much easier to get. I know a friend that has been to all the ADs in SoCal and still haven’t gotten one in 3 years.

Or it may be that many of the posters here already have a sub or two, and so now they're collecting the GMTs.

We are a very, very, very small percentage of the world's watch buying public.

This anecdotally sounds right to me.

Sub is around 2 years wait time for the laypeople nowadays. Hard to get because it’s easy to
Flip.

Do Rolex make watches in batches, or are all watches made at the same time?

I am probably being stupid but I have no idea how Rolex runs it’s production lines so thought it was worth asking.

Can’t judge the supply based on incoming threads.

A lot of people don’t post it. I guess I can say I got an incoming last month for a Cermit?

There you got one more!

If you think TRF is truly representative of the whole, global Rolex buying population, your suggestion is logical. The question is, how representative is TRF? I'm thinking it's not, but I can't produce any evidence to support my opinion.

Anecdotally, and remember we are a small sample here, it does seem that same piece deliveries do seem to come in batches, at least regionally.

I agree. In my first post, I wondered how representative TRF preferences are versus general Rolex buyers' preferences and if that was a possible explanation for the comparative lack of sub incomings.

I'd say evidence supporting that theory that TRF is not representative is the glut of meteorite GMT incomings I've seen posted when they are (from everything I've been told) a comparatively uncommon watch.

I think you’d also want to parse the TRF incomings into two categories after model. Those from an AD and those that are not.

As a group, WIS trade more with secondary dealers than the general public does.

So, in effect, we see here the preferences that drove a purchase versus the available new AD stocking.

That's a good point. It's reminded me that there have indeed been a fair few GMT meteorite incomings. Probably not your average sample then.

Count me in with those who did not pose an incoming. Received a new sub date and a nice gift from AD just four days ago.

Out of curiosity, would you have posted if instead of the sub it was a different watch you received?

I do not think TRF is representative of what’s going on in the real world, but I too have noticed far more GMT II Meteorite incomings in the last few weeks than I have seen at any point over the last year or so. As someone who received one recently after a very long, mostly patient wait, I’m certainly not complaining. Just making an observation.

If one used TRF as a barometer for watch incomings it would appear that the most numerous offerings from Rolex are Daytonas, GMTs (especially meteorite dials) and even blue SkyDwellers. It would also appear, using TRF again as a guide, that the rarest references are the Submariner/Submariner Date, YM/YM II, the Cellini and rarest of all, the OP.

I believe there are many Submariners/Submariner Dates received, but they don’t get the same rush to post as a fresh-from-AD BLRO on Oyster will receive. Or take the GMT meteorite dial - every single incoming of the 126719BLRO by a TRF member will be posted since it is seen as ‘rare.’ Every single incoming of the Submariner or YatchMaster will however not be posted. It can make it appear as if some references are more or less common than they are in reality.

In looking at the gray market which is a better indicator, they never run out and so suggest that Rolex makes them in an ongoing manner. We here on the forum are also a very small sample of a much larger population.

I would have shared the Sub incoming with the community if I didn't have to leave for vacation the following day. Maybe I will do an incoming with the story behind how I got the Sub from AD when I return.

I wish I could offer some useful advice. To be candid, I had pretty much given up until I got the call. All I can say is hang tight and good luck, friend.
