New Submariner Date or No Date?

I have been out of the watch game for several years now, but am getting the itch. The ADs I've bought from in the past are no longer Rolex ADs, so this is a problem as I tend to collect SS sports models (like everyone else!).

How difficult is it to find these 2 models from an AD right now? (I am shocked at how much they've risen in price, too.)

Thanks for your thoughts.

Depends where you live. I live in a smaller market, and either black sub or sub date I am estimating around 6 months to a year. I would reach out to local ADs and see what they say.

All models seem to get harder by the month. Compared to a white Daytona, it’s quite easy. Compared to a two-tone Datejust, quite hard. Beyond general statements like that, there are too many random factors (location, rapport with SA, etc) to give you any sort of reliable information. It will also depend on which model you’re after—the LV will obviously be the hardest, and then there are conflicting reports of whether the no-date Sub is harder or easier to source than the Sub date.

Not sure but if you do get the chance go no date. Unless you have a one watch collection you may preferred date.

I called my preferred AD when the new Submariner was released last September 1st. They called me a little over two weeks ago and I purchased the 124060. It took a little less than 10 months.

Moderately difficult in most cases without a strong existing relationship. The markup from secondary dealers isn't insignificant but also less than stainless GMTs.

I don’t think the OP is asking for sub or sub date. The OP wants to know how long it will wait for either of them.

You're right! The headline and the text fooled me.

OP, submariner (no date) is easier to get. Express genuine interest. Make a connection with a person. Buy something for your wife or mother. Get the call in 3 months or so to pick up your sub.

I was told explicitly that sub, air king, and explorer I are held back as first purchase / relationship establishment pieces.

Got me too! Interesting because my AD told me since the néw release they both are hard to get, about even. Plus there is more date options and only one without the date. Probably depends on the AD. I do think in general the date had been harder to get. All SS are now for that matter. It doesn’t sound like the OP cares either way, so I would just tell them you will take whatever they can get in first.

New Submariner Date or No Date?

Nowadays you gotta take your sales guy to dinner, buy him a bottle of wine (better not be grocery bought), and go to their kids baseball game.

And name your first born after the sales guy of course.

Then you should be set

Get the first one you can get your hands on. Personally, I’d go for the no date every time. It’s the purest iteration of the reference. It’s simply perfection.

If Sub was going to be my only watch then I would get the date. But if you have a few then the Classic Submariner No Date is the winner !

as a 1 watch owner of a sub date who is now expanding the collection after 5 years of daily wear, i agree with this sentiment.
