114270 for an Aqua terra?
Folks,
How stupid does it sound to sell a 114270 for an Omega Aqua terra? I love the Explorer so much but feel like I love the Aqua terra as well especially with its beautiful dial and case finish. I am just wondering if there is someone who experienced both and can give me some insight? I tried an Aqua terra a few times and pretty much loved it. Thanks |

114270 for an Aqua terra?
Not sure which AT you specifically liked but having owned the 114270 and various AT’s think it’s a NO for me as they are not valued at the same point.
Omega watches are nice but unfortunately depreciate a lot so if decide to buy one don’t buy new unless you get a big discount. New automatic AT’s with 8500 series movement in general are thicker than the 114270; older models with 2500 movement are thinner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I would not do it from a pure collectibility standpoint point. AT looks good, new ones with rubber bracelets are awesome, but AT does not reach Exp’s height.

Thanks for the answers guys.
Just to be clear, I am not talking about a straight swap, but selling the Exp and then sourcing an AT. Thanks |

I love Omega watches but the Explorer; at least for me with my 214270, is a better watch. I have never worn a 36mm Explorer so I do not know if I would feel the same in that case.

Absolutely not. Keep both. You can negotiate a 20% discount on a AT but won’t find another 114270 again.

I would never sell an Explorer for a modern Omega, especially since that Explorer is discontinued.

Just add the AT and see how you feel after a few weeks of owning both, the Exp will be tougher to replace if you regret it

Keep the Exp 1 and get the AT used. You will probably not regret this… my 2c

Yes, if you are not getting joy out of the Explorer sell it while the market is stupid high.
Pocket the difference, invest it, and never look back. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk |

Hard to say since I’m not really a fan of either. But I would never unload a watch I know I love to get a watch I think I love. And that Omega just seems pretty average to me.
I’d think you could figure out a way to add the Omega (or wait for it) if you really love it. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Aqua Terra isn't that expensive, especially if you are purchasing one used as they depreciate. Is just adding it a potential option?

I have had a 214270 and aqua terra at same time. Literally never wore AT. Sold. I have sold quite a few watches and miss most. The AT, I do not miss for a second. 114270 seems less exciting and Omega makes really great watches, but I’d personally keep the explorer. As pure of a sport watch as you will find. Clean, simple, no BS and every bit a Rolex. |

Once again, the usual value/investment/market-price lines of thought come to the fore.
In contrast I say that this watch stuff is a HOBBY - nothing more, nothing less. You aren't going to retire to the Caymans on the potential gains from a 114270(!), so I say buy what you enjoy more. If the AT speaks to you more than the 114270, then you should buy the AT. |

I would never sell an Explorer and buy an AT. The AT are interesting watches, but what bothers me are the numbers on the minute track. They are tacky and distracting.
The Explorer is simply a phenomenal watch.

Only watch I’d trade a 114270 for is a 124270.

If you enjoy both watches I would hold on to the Rolex and purchase the Omega if possible. Wear both and you'll be comfortable with your choice after a period of time. No need to rush. good luck!

Nope and I own the Seamaster Aqua Terra. You can get one easily at 20% off MSRP and gently used ones show up on WatchRecon in the upper 3k range. The AT with the 8900 movement on a rubber strap is a great watch.

Maybe. Depends on bracelet / color combination. Lots of variables here…

The Aqua Terra is a HEAVILY underrated piece. Those rubber OEM straps on the new models are outstanding. The only thing I didn't like, was the lume - almost unreadable in the dark at times.
Otherwise, it's a great watch. Like others have said, pocket or invest the difference, and buy what you like. I sold a white dial OP39 for a 38mm AT once. I enjoyed the AT significantly more, despite the "perceived value" of the OP39 being higher. |

a decision you may regret within moments and never be able to require for the same price. AT are not expensive. Save and pick one up

I always have liked the AT but I am biased lol
I have never owned an explorer before thought about it but ultimately I like the dial options, colors etc better on an AT. I own a 2500 model where the dial was a little more cleaner. I think it’s a nice switch from my Sub and having a couple straps for it always helps change up the look. |

I’ve had my eye on one as well. I wouldn’t swap an Explorer for it though personally. I’ve just been standing by watching them depreciate and will likely add one down the road once they’ve gotten to a level of being relatively inexpensive that I can add it without really hurting the pocketbook. I say keep the Explorer and do the same personally. Take full advantage of Omega depreciation and keep the watch you already have and like.
