16610 vs 5513

Hi everyone,

assuming the following watches have more or less the same price. Which one would you buy? 16610 (b&p) or 5513 (only watch)?

Side question: the 5513's clasp doesn't have any clasp code or year engraved. is that possible??

thanks for the answer. Why you prefer the 16610?

I think we need to know a lot more about the 5513.

Id take a nice tritium 5513 anytime over a 16610. However before pulling the trigger post some better pics of the 5513, those left side lugs look like they took steroids..

Honestly? depends on the use.

Watch for watch, I would go with the 5513, but for daily use, the 16610 is better, IMO.

Yea if the 5513 is legit I’d take it, but if anything was off the 16610 is not a bad other option

the 5513 comes from a friend's collection. I think is 100% legit. Here a picture of the lugs (they don't look that thick in reality...probably a bad picture).

Usually people have a preference for a given model, since these two are dramatically different (date/no-date, acrylic/sapphire). But apparently you don't have a preference and mainly care about value. Well, the value of the 5513 hinges on details. If the watch is what it appears to be, the bezel insert is a replacement, which already knocks off a couple grand in value. There are many other issues that have huge effects on value, but the photos and info provided aren't sufficient to evaluate it.

Thanks Dan, I don't actually care about value. The insert is a hooked 5 probably period correct for a 1976 5513 (as far as I know, but yes... it looks super crisp compared to the watch case). I will add other picts later on.

As a vintage freak I would go for a plexi 4 digit ref especially when it is without the white gold surroundings like this 5513…but if you want a more traditionally looking sub then the cyclops 16610 might be what you are looking for…?

You don’t care about value, but that 5513 is probably worth a few thousand more.

Between the two reference I would go with a 5513.
Regarding this example, from the scarce photos, looks like a nice Maxi dial with the open six and the S of Submariner.
For the bracelet it should have the letter A in the clasp, if is a 1976 as you stated.

If is a friend why don't get more photos to have a better opinion?

I think we need better photos, it doesn't look like a Maxi I to me. The middle line in the E looks very long, like a serif dial.

Agree that we need better photos, but concur -- looks like a serif dial to me, not a Maxi

Sorry, you're correct about serif, from the photo I thought the coronet was slimmer and didn't look at the E

I confirm it is a serif dial, probably a replacement as the watch is a 50xxx million serial.

Even if someone said that is not rare to see genuine serif-dial until 50xx serial

16610 for daily.

If I'm going for a 5513, I'd be looking for something that looked a bit more vintage than this example (faded bezel, yellowing indices, etc.)...but that's just me!
