Replica Nightmares

Over this last week-end I had a colleague drop in and show me a selection of his fake watches. The Rolex selection scared the life out of me. Its been a while since I really examined a fake Rolex but how they have improved their fakery in recent times is astounding. We know Rolex are the most faked watches (with Panerai a close second) and Ive seen everything from Subs to DJs and its now nigh impossible for the experienced layman to spot the faults and certainly not when on the wrist. One such replica cost him£600!!!, crazy. But a bit of an eye opener really.

FYI, I don't think they like us to discuss such things on TRF although, probably good to be aware of these things so as to avoid them more effectively...

My friend had one yesterday that I couldn't tell the difference between my real one. He used to work in law enforcement and had a case with fakes from the same manufacturer and when it went to court and Rolex sent someone to authenticate the watch, they deemed it real even though it was proven fake because they kept using the same serial number. Crazy how hard it is to tell the difference.

Read the forum rules we don't talk about fakes in the Rolex watch forum.

Your friend is claiming that "someone" from Rolex couldn't tell that a fake watch was a fake ?
Sounds legit.

Before this post gets taken down. The rip off of any brand turns my stomach.

If it was someone from Rolex management, examining only the exterior of the watch, I suppose it's plausible. But if a watchmaker, then absolutely not buying that it's the case (not that the above is a lie, just that that's how it actually unfolded).

I doubt in a legal proceeding the Rolex factory expert would only
Examine the outside as it could be genuine dial and the movt is fake. It’s not hard to open the case and inspect it. For a legal proceeding I would have to assume it would be more thorough.
