Rolex Air-King Ultimate Review and Buying Guide

Straight off the bat I am curious, are Air-Kings currentyl hot right now... I have always been keeping my eye on 116900 but have not picked one up yet. I am now thinking that they will increase in price in the next 10 years, more than regular. Thats just my sepeculation but believe in it heavily. In the guide that I read https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-bl...ing-guide.html they covered the history of this specific model and it shows promise towards this watch as an investment. I enjoy the Rolex history very much and is one reason this model will be in my collection by end of year, if I can find one for the right price. I am also curious... are there any models that you reccomend for the spotlight, I am leaning towards the 116900 but perhaps there may be another model that will catch my eye. Let me know what Air-King you would invest in!

I believe you tick the box with your opinion about the AK.

I'm not really in this hobby for the investment opportunities so while that could be true it doesn't make me want to buy the new AK. If they slimmed down the case size a bit I would be all in.

If you're looking for under the radar speculative investment watches and don't care about how it looks or fits on wrist another one might be the Milgauss Z-Blue.

Air King and Milgauss are identical in every way but the dial, PCL and crystal.

If you want a good investment go speak to a financial advisor. If you want a great time piece, buy a Rolex.

It is the only SS watch I have been spontaneously offered by an AD in the past year. They have their fan club. I care little about whether they are the next big thing. It simply isn't a watch I want to wear.

I'm sure it will be discontinued sooner than later and people will drive the price up at least temporarily. We want what we can't have. If you feel they are a great "investment" then buy 10 or 20 of them I suppose is my best advice. Good luck.

Yes correct, was just giving OP another alternative since he asked.

Identical in every way but some how the Airking is ten times better. Also one of the most ultimate twats I know wears a Milguass so would never get one.

the Z-Blue was going to be my first Rolex but then I saw the Air King and thought that's different and liked the colors on the crown, Rolex in green and the second hand... It also helped that it was less money than the Z-Blue since it was my first time spending that much for a watch and it was a gift to myself on my retirement.. Have it now on Everest black rubber and feels so comfortable, not saying the oyster is not comfortable, because it is.

For the Z-Blue I just can't get into that bright green o-ring on top. I think it takes away from the watch it's self.

Just like the SD4k , which was probably the most UN-loved watch while it was produced, the Air-King will be the must have watch very soon.

The Air-King will soon hit $12k to $14k when production is stopped.

The Air-King will be the must have watch for the collector because of the short production run and it's brushed finish!

The 116900 will be stopped because it is one of the last-three hand models that hasn't gotten the upgraded movement first seen in the Sub no-date in 2020. Heck even the OP has it. But I believe the 126900 will be improved, including have lumed 3-6-9. The Air-King line is not going anywhere

Indeed, I expected that in Aug. 2019 already and purchased a new Air King 116900 new/"in the stickers" for € 5.575,- in the Netherlands.
Today on Chrono24 you have to pay in Europe at least € 10.000,- (UK) to € 16.000,- (Germany).....and without stickers.
That is a plus of 80-187 % in only 2,5 years....

I expect the same for a Yacht Master II 116680 / Blue Hands.........it is still low increasing however I expect it will overrule the Air King II in gain within the next 10 years.
I purchased a pre-owned Yacht Master in immaculate condition in Jan. 2019 for € 12.250,-........today you have to pay € 18.000,- and more.
This beloved / hated YM II in my opinion once will follow the path of the Daytona......(which was beloved/hated/widely discussed when issued)
I am pretty sure about it; especially for the edition with the "Blue Hands" which was manufactured in low numbers only for a very, very short time and thereafter was changed into a less characteristic and unclear "Rolex Hands" version.
