AP 15400 or 15500 buyers guide?
Hi everyone I'm trying to score a 15400 or a 15500 any dial but preferably a white dial. I went to a Dealer today in Manhasset, NY and I was basically told to stay in contact with the S.A here and there to check on it. However no timeframe was given on how long the wait will be or if I will be given the opportunity to buy it over other ppl.
I'm patient and persistent but is there any suggestions about getting this watch at retail or even a little over retail. I'm not too interested in paying double retail on the gray market which is the case now. PLEASE CHIME IN AND LET ME KNOW HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT OBTAINING THIS SO DESIRED TIME PIECE. |

Any suggestions on how to go about working with a boutique? They seemed pretty annoyed when taking the info and almost like beg me to give you a watch type of attitude.
What you guys think of the price in the aftermarket? Do you guys think it will keep going higher like the Jumbo which is hitting 100K? If that was the case I wouldn't mind dropping 40 on it lol |

it's a mystery how ADs work... if you want it enough, just buy it at mkt price, don't worry about the $... imo, i like the look of the 15400 more than the 15500, the 15500 has the appearance of a larger dial (which is fine if you have large wrists, but kind of looks empty)...

The dialwork on the 15500 is better but I personally prefer the proportions of the 15400. You could wait for prices to drop on gray, but realistically how much would you really save even if it does? Gray prices won’t tank unless everyone who wants one can suddenly get one at retail. That’s a highly unlikely situation. Just buy the watch you want now if you like it.

I'm not dying to have the watch like I needed tomorrow. However, I do want it within a year or 2. That's why I'm asking if I even have a chance to get it within that timeframe? and if so how can I go about dealing with the boutiques. Getting it brand new from AP and at MSRP its a no brainer if its possible. I would just hate waiting to get it to eventually get it in the. gray market after all the wait. |

How will you get a 15400 from an AD when they’ve been discontinued for years?

Actually, the trick is to get in line, keep showing your interest, and be patient. If there was a standard recipe for you to follow those watches wouldn't trade at a multiple of MSRP.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people waiting for 15500 at MSRP world wide, being friendly means the sticky note with your name won’t go into waste paper basket but it’s not going to leap frog you over other people Sure there are exceptions and some have gotten it after 1 year with no history but I’d say that is rare and not the norm |

Very tough to get a steel RO as a first time buyer from a boutique these days... not at all saying don't give it a go, but you should definitely temper expectations. That said, If i was in your shoes and knew a steel RO is what I need to have, I'd go grey and wear it and enjoy it immediately. Would also inquire with the boutique as planned and if one comes, great (I'll maybe sell one then), but if not then I've been enjoying one nonetheless.

AP 15400 or 15500 buyers guide?
As others have said - patience.
Register your interest with the boutique and keep in touch. Stop in every so often - email or text or call. That’s the only way to obtain one at retail. Otherwise there’s the secondary market where they are selling for what the market will bare which is no where close to retail. I obtained mine - contact and network. 1st AP - no prior purchase history. Are you friends with anyone that has purchased from that boutique? Perhaps get them to vouch and recommend you to the boutique - anything helps. Best of luck on the hunt! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had no purchase history, only a good communication how I convinced the AD.

Give them some other business first, like their other clients do. Just showing up and asking for one of the hottest and most desired models isn't going to get you results. TBO they probably felt you were being arrogant too, wanting a 40k watch for 20k. There are many people that want this watch and most of them are current clients that buy other pieces. Become one of them and you will get you RO. Good luck

If you got the stay in contact message then you are one of the lucky ones. Here in LA, the AP store would giggle if you came asking for that. :)

I got that sense. No giggling when I went in a few weeks back, but they had 2 Codes in the whole store and took my information - I wouldn't say friendly but not with a super-attitude. I got the feeling that it would be a long to eternal wait - so I went gray. Life is too short. If I get the call then I will get another one :)

Interested to see how you make out, keep us posted. Gut tells me if you want one at this point you need to buy enough slower moving merchandise to make up for the $$ upside they are giving you in the RO. You could get lucky though, never know.

Is there any real slow moving merchandise for AP at this point unless you're talking about women's watches? Everyone keeps posting about how AP boutiques only have like 2 models in store (exaggerating but you get my point) with everything else already allocated.

I guess you make a point. Helps that lots of Rolex stores sell other brands... AP tends to stand alone. I dont know what they ever have in stock since they dont have any dealers in Canada.

Last 3 times I went by the AP Boutique in Vegas, they had not a single model in stock. Wasn’t sure what the point of even keeping the lights on at that point were. |
