A Visit to South Coast Plaza

Was killing time at the mall today and against my better judgement decided to visit the Rolex Boutique. Surprisingly, the cases were not empty. But all models were exhibition only. They had some nice pieces. BlueSkyD, Sub date, no date, and bluesy, to name a few. Chatted a bit with the SA who was super nice. She told me for a bluesy I was looking at 6 months and for a Sub date, years. Anything beyond that, never. I asked about DJs and she said to let me know what I was looking for and she’d take my info down. Overall, not as bad as I thought but still crazy as ever.

Rolex figured it was too embarrassing to keep empty shelves.

I was in Cerritos Mall and got the same story.

Yeah I got overly excited few weeks ago when I walked in and saw the "Exhibition Models" .. I went right up to the SA and said I'll take that SUB you have over there. I had no idea what 'exhibition models' meant til she kindly explained to me. How embarrassing :-(

I think you may be color blind, haha. The SkyD is black dial and not blue. I could’ve stared at my black one at home :)

South Coast is a watch lover’s dream. AP is opening up a boutique there in the fall.

I was in about a month ago. SA was a very friendly lady. It was great to try on a couple for size since I had not been able to. Put my name on list for the 2 that I am interested in. Who knows maybe over the next couple of years I’ll get a couple of gems.

I did end up buying an IWC Pilot Auto 36 to tide me over till I someday get that call.

This is a great post. I wouldn’t be embarrassed. Rolex @ South Coast Plaza has a lot of high end clients. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rolex Boutique Tourneau staff mingle with the elite of Newport Beach. A great way to network with the rich and famous

I have nothing good to say about South Coast Rolex. The staff there is about as unpleasant as I’ve experienced at any retail store.

A good chunk of the Newport Beach crowd goes to Hyde Park. They’re beyond fantastic.

South coast is the worst. Have always been treated like shit there. Would come in just to chat and inquire about prices - I worked across the street so dropped by somewhat often. Never an enjoyable experience.

I think if you have a purchase history there already, you can likely get another model in the future. What the model is depends on factors discussed here often.

I’d the people out of luck are the walk-ins. You’re not getting a gmt, Daytona, blue sky dweller, etc. Probably most likely not even a Sub according to an above post. Datejust - there is hope if you can wait and be persistent. Crazy times indeed!

I saw a dummy DJ41 w/ azzurro blue dial at Southcoast so it was worth going in since I was wondering how it looked. Then went to Rolex at Fashion Island which was pretty much empty except for Cellini. They didn’t even have any dummy Rolex watches. Lastly, went to Eurocollective at Fashion and finally got to see the white SS Daytona (stickered) in the flesh for the first time in my life. What a beauty but not for ~$41k they were asking. They told me the warranty date will be in Sept 2021 (future). Still worth the trip just to see that watch :)

No Sub dates around because my local non-AD family owned jewellery shop has 49 in stock.

I think there are 2 or 3 of them. There’s one that’s bit older and she is definitely not that friendly.

I said "That bad??" She nodded her head. "For a sub??" She nodded her head again. "Really?" Nodded a third time.

In fact, a couple of years earlier I had a nice talk with the manager who was straight up with me. It was on a weekday in the late afternoon and the store wasn't very busy. He said he had VIPs to service. Even told me about a time when he offered a VIP a DaytonaC. Definitely got the impression that the VIPs get first crack at everything. All other customers get what the VIPs turn down.
