Sending my 116710BLNR in

Hey Folks,

I have a 2016 BLNR that I unfortunately have to send in. It's a bit odd as I think the mainspring is broken. It won't wind and the second hand moves backwards. If anyone has any words of advice I'm listening, but the retailer told me it's a 12 week turnaround time from the RSC to back on my wrist also no estimate yet on cost. any ideas?

I am a little surprised that my watch already needs serviced with only 5 years of wrist time. I understand that mechanical watches are unique, however I thought with my Rolex it would be G2G for at least 10 years prior to needing serviced. I am thinking now I might as well get a full service if the RSC is already going to have possession of it.

Thanks for any advice or tips y'all may have (words of encouragement are ok too )

Cheers,

Ray

That's bad luck, it happens.

I serviced a BLNR this week with the exact issue as yours, broken mainspring. Cost came in at €700 because no additional parts needed replacement.

After 5ish years of frequent you can definitely see some slight wear and gummed up lubricants inside the movement.

Also, you need to take apart half of the movement to get to the mainspring, only doing that would make for a messy intervention, definitely not the Rolex way.

A lot of people waited with sending watches in for service during the pandemic, now that a lot of the world is slowly opening up there is an enormous amount of work for RSC watchmakers worldwide, which makes the waiting time longer and longer.

Ray, sorry to hear.
Your 2016 watch is beyond the 5 year guarantee period? How much?
If it is less than 6 months above, I would write a letter to RSC and kindly ask for a free of charge repair.
Good luck!

It is only about a month and a half past the 5 year warranty date. So I guess I could kindly ask for a free of charge repair. But would it not be wiser to go ahead and have a full service done since they will already have possession of it?

I don't think so and would kindly ask for a free of charge repair under guarantee.

RSC will anyhow dismantle this movement (see post #2) and then fix other things, if there is something else.

Explain, current situation, COVID, etc., just ask for it to be rectified under warranty, if they say no then they say no, if they say okay then it’s a brilliant result.

If you don’t ask you’ll never know whether they would or wouldn’t cover it.

Don’t ask = don’t get.

That’s interesting Bas. Is this typical of all Rolex movements?
