Any and all opinions will be helpfull

Hello everyone,

This is my first time here, as I´m trying to find more details about Rolex in my possesion. My friend had it for 15 years but apparently it dates back to 1946. However, there is no obvious serial number. On the face is says "Rolex, Oyster Perpetual, Date" & "Superlative Chromometer, Officially Certified". there is nothing on the back apart from 14K stamp. The bracelet fastener has the same stamp on the left and below the stamp it´s "U.S.A." and Rolex and crown in the center.

I took some pictures, links below.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA

Well, it appears to be a DateJust with a Thunderbird bezel, which was only introduced in 1956, not 1946. Also, at the time, Rolex was using 18K and the "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" label was only introduced in the mid-50's IIRC - before that it read "Officially Certified Chronometer".

So at very least the date's wrong. As for the rest of the watch, the photos are too small for any clear assessment, and the 14K marking seems wrong to me - I believe Rolex switched to 18K well before that.

Well can assure you that watch is not from the 1940s,picture is poor if watch is all gold looks like a DJ late 60s- early 70s.Now watch should have serial between lugs at 6 O'Clock model ref at 12 O'Clock, then we could date more accurately. As to the 14ct gold American market only not 100% sure think this was a alternative to 18ct used up till 80s after 18ct only

I think Rolex continued to use 14kt gold until the late 60s, but I may be mistaken. Also, it looks as if the date is printed in black. If it was from the 50s, the date would be printed in red, I believe.

I'm guessing it's from the 60s at the very least.

Thanks for your replies.
Watch looks like this one: http://www.princetonwatches.com/shop/PVU021.asp, but no serial number on face, also frame of the face has more prominant markers at the 5 mins intervals and bracelet is made of 5 lines, with lager links at the edges.

Shall I take it as a fake?

If you've actually got it in your hands, the simplest thing is to take it to the nearest Rolex Service Centre and they can tell you if it's fake. if it's not, they should be able to provide you with some information on it.

I was affraid of losing it, as it is part of inheritance. But, will do, it seems to be the best solution.

Thanks again and good day to all.

Nah, if it's a Rolex Service Centre, you're not going to lose it. All the best!

Back again :), I removed the bracelet and there is a number on the side (at 6 o´clock) and it reads 29620?7 (questionmark is probably Nş3, but not sure).

Your watch's serial# dates the watch to 1970.

Yes as wolfgang said that watch in the second half of 1970.
