I wouldn't but if you're not enjoying the Patek anymore then go for it. This being said I wouldn't touch any Rolex in this current grey market either.

The Daytona is cool and a watch that everyone can appreciate but the 5130p is a very special watch. Totally different level. This is something that Patek is truly known for. That watch represents much more of what Patek is about than a Nautilus ever will.
Short answer: no! If we are ignoring values the 5130p is a much greater watch than a 5711. |

Yes, I dont give 2 cents for the name on the dial, i have issues with the Daytona, but do not like the 5130. Many here, will see the label "Patek" on the front, think your crazy, but in the end, if you dont want to wear it (and I would not) I would trade it. Watches are meant to be work, and if you will wear the Daytona more, that's the move to make.

You are kidding... aren’t you?
A 5130P world time for a Daytona? These two references shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same phrase. The PP is at a different level. Who cares about a ceramic Daytona when you have a world time! This is just a fake question, I got it. Share some pics of that beautiful PP instead! |

Nope. I have 3 Daytona’s, love them. My favorite watch. BUT ONLY AT RETAIL. The reference you’re looking to get into is worth $13k… exactly what Rolex says it’s worth. Market price isn’t an accurate reflection of what you get for your money.

Now I love my Daytona SS Ceramic and “paid” the gray market rate (traded up) for it but I wouldn’t trade a PP for it.

On aesthetic alone, the Daytona totally destroys the 5130.
I find the dial to be really confusing and unattractive. The daytona is much more appealing to me. So yes, on this basis, I would do that trade. Easy decision for me, I have to love what is on my wrist, and the name alone would not be enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think the black dials are about 30k and your Patek is 45 to 50k why would you want to trade? That is grey market.

I wonder if 90% of the posters here have ever actually even owned a Patek - that model, or ANY other Patek....or if they are just reading about them or looking at instagram photos.
I've owned both. And I loved both of them. But to me, these two watches are quite different. Different case materials, bracelet vs strap, different functionality, and different styling (dress vs. sports). So I think a major consideration is how you plan to wear it. All that said, I can see wanting to dump the Patek for an equivalent in market value Daytona. It totally makes sense if that's what you want. Clearly, retail price is different, but if you can't buy a Daytona at the retail price, then retail price means NOTHING. The monetary value of everything is based on what someone is willing to pay for it. Not sure why people can't figure that out. Life is short. You'll make more money. Wear the watch that makes your heart happy. There are million dollar watches that I would trade (or sell) to get a Timex, if that's what I really really wanted. |

It's not equivalent value though. Even at the stupidly inflated prices it commands at the moment the Daytona is worth less. And the post implies he'll need to add cash too. Stupid.

Values aside…
If you personally would enjoy the Daytona more, why not? For me personally, I’d prefer the Daytona only because it fits my lifestyle/style more. If I had a need , or wanted a dressier watch like this PP, I wouldn’t. The PP is a beauty! |

Like all of these decisions, it's very personal to preference and lifestyle.
If I had 4 car garage, the time and money to own and actually enjoy a bentley, sure I wouldn't trade it "down" for a mercedes. But in reality (for me), I don't have the 4 car garage and I can't own a car that lacks the versatility of the Mercedes (daytona). I don't really care much for watches that can't get wet. Just my personal take. If you can afford to have a watch for every situation, fair enough, but in that case just add the daytona. |

I really dislike the word trade, its overly simplistic. If you want to dump the 5130p that's fine. You'll get what you get for it and that's that (hopefully somewhere around $50k). With your newfound cash, if you desire a daytona then by all means get what you want. I'm not a fan of the word trade... i see it as 2 transactions.
