Is the white dial OP39 an “error dial”?

I have an OP39 114300 white dial. I also have an explorer II Polar and my wife has a white dial Datejust. Hold all 3 in a lineup and you can see the White OP39 isn’t the same white as the others. Is it possible Rolex discontinued the matte white textured dial simply because it’s just not white? It’s more eggshell and even appears silver in some natural light conditions. It definitely isn’t the same as any other dial Rolex calls white. I could see how Rolex would not want to call the OP39 Dial white if it mismatched literally every single other white dial in the Rolex catalogue at the time, so they canned it. Just thinking out loud.

No, not an error dial and not why they canned it.

It's a beautiful dial, IMO. One of the most beautiful white dials from Rolex.

I sure hope you love it

The OP39 white and black are sunburst dials, hence not like the Polar which is matte, I believe.

Ps: I love my OP39, even though it has not seen my wrist ever since I got my new GS Snowflake.

Rolex do different shades of white. What is interesting to me is that there is no difference between the Polar and the DJ. I thought the Polar had the only consistently white dial in the range.

No, absolutely not. White isn't just one shade of white, just as black isn't just one shade.

Rolex also does different black dials (the DJ41, Explorer and Milgauss all have very different black dials). Similarly, Rolex also does different greens (the lady DJ green is different to the DD green) and blues (Sub, OP and DJ).

I think just accept the watch for what it is, which is a nice shade / tone of white. Any reference to 'error dials' are largely (imo) clutching at straws to make a watch seem more rare. A few of the big culprits are the 'APH' dial Daytona which was in production for a lot longer than people want to admit. Another being the Mark 1, 2, 3 Pepsis and Hulks which people obsess about.

I don't believe Rolex really does genuine 'errors' - more conscious decisions.

The exception being some "cream" dials, which started as white, but faded from a bright white to more of an ivory color. Explorer II had a run of these, and I think Daytona may have as well.

Datejust whites are usually pure gloss white. Not satin or sunburst effect.

That’s what gives them their ultra clean appearance.

While I agree the OP39 Black is a sunburst dial, the OP39 White has a texture and appears as more of a matte white dial, which I don't know of in any other 6 digit references. Perhaps it is a stretch to call it an error, but are there any other Rolexes with matte white as opposed to gloss white dials?
