Gifted my godson an 116660 DSSD Black Dial

……in 2015 and he’s been wearing it as his daily ever since. Saw him for the first time in 2 years due to the pandemic, and it was good to see how much he still loves it. His nonchalant, non-“watch guy” approach to wearing the watch makes me smile.

Brief backstory:

His mother is one of my wife’s closest friends and we’ve been around since he was in the womb. His dad ended up permanently out of their lives soon after our godson was born. His loss, and my gain, as the boy became like my son. He ended up living with us for awhile while his mother navigated moving across the country to be closer to us.

To say it’s been one of the great pleasures of my life is an understatement; he and his mother have been permanent fixtures in our lives ever since. Our daughters consider him their brother, and having an opportunity to help raise a now successful young man has been an absolute gift.

My father gave me my first “real” watch (his Omega Seamaster DeVille) and as a watch guy I wanted to do the same for my godson. I bought myself an 116660 and he always commented on it; he knew nothing about watches but just liked the way it looked. As soon as I saw the way he looked at it, I knew the watch was going to be his when he graduated from college.

We invited him over for dinner after his college graduation and I gave him the watch (full-set of course) and the look on his face was nothing short of priceless.

He knows nothing about the current Rolex hype, and couldn’t care less - he just rocks the watch all day, every day. He said occasionally people comment on it, and he knows it’s a “nice watch” but he absolutely doesn’t baby it.

He took us out for lunch today and I had to get some pics. Gotta love it:

Beautiful story and bond you have with your godson - thank you for sharing.

One request please ... if he ever sends his DSSD for a full service, and has it polished, please take some pics and post the before and after. I'd love to see if RSC could really make this watch "look like new again"!

Great story!

But tell that kid to break out a little dawn dish-soap and an old toothbrush!

I can smell that watch from here

amazing story. I am right now mentoring a 23 year old and as a 38 year old successful man (Success is relative on your perception in my opinion) and there is nothing more satisfying than simply passing it on. I just wish I had the money making opportunities with Crypto like these young guys do these days when I was that age.
