Watch roll: snap vs slide

I am looking to get a watch roll for traveling (Everest, Patek, Bosphorus, or Carapaz), and noticed the high end ones use snap enclosures while Everest and Carapaz us sliding ones. Is one better than the other? I would think the snap are inconvenient to use, but then why would the more expensive ones use this type?

Preference. I have Carapaz and love the display option.

Watch roll: snap vs slide

I think the slide is option is easier to use on a day-to-day basis. I also think you’re more likely to see some wear-and-tear over time with the slide option too. Rubbing 2 parts together can’t be good over time. Friction.

The friction arising from rubbing two parts together isn’t necessarily a bad thing…

I have two Bosphorus 4-watch rolls and love them. The snap feature is why I chose them (over the slide) and I couldn’t be happier.

My only issue with my Carapaz roll is that when it slides in the top and bottom are compressed a bit and the watch loses its tight seating on the insert. Otherwise it’s great. But the next roll I order will be snap.

Absolutely it is. It’s the reason why you need to put oil in an engine. You need to keep it lubricated or it will break down.

The material used in these watch rolls is usually suede or something similar, not Teflon.

I have a watch roll with the slide option. I love it. It’s still going strong, but the suede material will eventually start to fray from friction, no doubt. Whether that’s 5 months from now or 5 years from now is to be determined. Either way, I expect to have to replace it over time.

Another vote for Bosphorus, love hearing the snaps pop together! And the quality and customer service in impeccable!

Slide is so much more practical and convenient for everyday use. That’s why I sold my Bosphorus as trying to take out the watches in the middle of the four count roll was a pain. Not ideal when you’re in the move (watch could fall, etc).

I’m a big fan of my Everest rolls and feel they’re even better quality than my Carapaz.

Landed on this thread as I’m looking for a watch roll as well, great info here.

Could someone be kind to educate me regarding snap vs slide?

I can’t really understand how each of these two systems work (and why one is better than other).

The cushion the watch sits on will either slide into the exterior case or you snap the cushion in place with a couple snaps. Kinda hard to explain, but there are YouTube videos showing how they work. Snaps look more solid for bumps while traveling, but kinda a PIA to use daily. They each have pro/cons and comes down to your use case. I currently have a slide, but may add a snap to compare.

Thank you, really appreciating it, I think I got the idea. So another vote for snap.

Slide and display
Vs
Snap. Sloppy and the top and bottom lids are twisted to get out of the picture. Twisting also necessary to access your watches.

Thank you. I assume you prefer the Everest with slide?
