Misc. Sub question
All of the Subs (no date) I've seen are just black. Has Rolex ever offered them with other colour dials/bezels like the date models get, and if not, does anyone know why not? Cheers

For the same reason they offer different dials, bezels, metals etc. for the SubDates?
The new Explorer TT looks good, will Rolex do something similar with the Submariners?

Submariner has only been black dial and black bezel (LN). Submariner Date is where Rolex upsells.

I assume it’s to keep the historic appeal of the classic Black sub. But I think it would be nice if they did offer colors here.

The no date has always been the submariner step child

False, it was introduced first and is the watch that made the Submariner what it is today. It’s the most iconic watch in history.

No hurt feelings. You should look into the history if you haven’t already.

I like the fact that it is what it is. A no fuss, no muss SS Rolex that doesn’t mix metals and colors. YMMV

This is true. It is THE submariner. We didn’t see a datesub until the 1680, presumably to transition from a dive/tool watch into a sport watch that non divers would want. Those that would want an every day sport watch, wanted a date. I think the submariner is the most iconic watch made as well, but i think many would say the datejust is the most iconic. |

Misc. Sub question
Before the Sub there was an OP.
Now OP has become a box of crayons. IMHO, Sub needs a Polar version - there, I said it. Happy New Year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I bought my 214270 and 114060 for the simple reason that they were as close to the originals as possible. If the 124270 had been available I would have preferred the 36mm, but 39mm was all there was.
I genuinely enjoy that I can place my watches next to the same model from the 1960s and you can see refinement but not change. No other Rolex really attracts me now to be honest. |

Chrono24 cannot handle that volume of watches . That thing would go crazy on the secondary. As much as i like the classic black dial, it doesn’t seem out of the question. |

Since the no date was sold for many years before the introduction of the date variant, if we are to use the family tree analogy the no date is the father and the date the fourth born child (because there were various no dates prior to the first date version)
