My AD will not authenticate Rolex or Tudor. And it’s a Rolex Boutique.

Your average SA is not capable of checking a watch.
The RSC is your best bet

If you post some pics, we can give an opinion. A fake will not get past the collective here.

Where did you get the watch? Why the need to check is always my first instinct..

Untrue. Many fake Rolex watches have fake automatic movements that make the hands “sweep,” especially so called “super clones.” There are many other identifying factors that validate authenticity but this forum is not the place to make that determination

Only way to get it serviced at a RSC… they will either make it look new or put a hammer through it!!

Kidding of course, but I would not trust a SA to authenticate a watch. I don't believe RSC would authenticate either, but you can send it, or bring it in, for a service quote and they would tell you if anything on the watch is not original. Another way is to post nice detailed pics here on the forums and there are a lot of really amazing experts that can give you some solid opinions. |

Buy it from a reputable seller or AD … but the seller as much as the watch. If you have doubts, it’s likely fake.

It must be opened and the movement checked.

To me, as an amateur, I'd look for the crown at 6 o'clock on the crystal. That's a pretty good indicator isn't it? I mean there are some really good fake out there, but this is a detail that's not as easy to execute.

No, you need to take it into a professional watchmaker who is familiar with Rolex to be absolutely sure.
Some of the things I do personally (and that's assuming I've already dismissed a readily apparent fake, like something that ticks or where the date magnification is completely off), these are not in order: (1) Crystal at 6 o'clock on the crystal (2) Overall fit/finish of the watch (like bezel action, solidity of clasp, feel of bracelet, text, etching, etc) (3) Check papers for serial number and match it against case. I feel much better if I have at least 2 "external" sources with a serial matching up with case. So like the warranty card AND the hangtag. (4) I check accuracy and power reserve. I think this is easier with a newer 32xx movement watch. I've owned 4 of these so far, and none have deviated from the promised -2/+2 no matter the position. So I give the watch a full wind, and then observe timekeeping. I also move it around a bit for positional variance. If the above 4 conditions are met AND I purchased from a fairly reputable seller, I don't feel the need to do anything else. |

Some of the good fakes have this and they do it quite well. Some of these Youtube videos comparing real and high quality fakes are quite scary.

Go to an AD that sells preowned watches. Ask them what they'll offer you for your watch. When the inspect it, they'll figure it out. If its real they'll make an offer, if its fake they'll tell you. Free authentication.
