How many years would you wait for a stainless Daytona?

What is the longest you’d be willing to wait?

2 days.

Never understood appeal. It’s an old fashioned watch. Poor design. Why don’t they just polish the outside links on the oyster bracelet to amp up the bling.

Much rather get a VC Overseas Dual Time.

I waited 58 days for my first Daytona from when I first asked my AD for one. I received it December 24, 2019.

Two months later (February 2020), I gave it to my nephew for his wedding present. I missed the watch so much … admittedly, I regretted giving it away. So I asked my AD for another.

On December 23, 2020 (364 days after I received my first Daytona), I received my second Daytona from my AD. That watch will remain with me forever!

I have never had to put a deposit down for a watch. My 116500 came 9 months from when I asked for it, nothing down but a handshake.
As far as hypothetical, if someone with no AD relationship was offered that I would think a one year or less guarantee might be worth it. But you should get your money back if they can’t deliver.

IMO Daytona has a great case but bad dial. I’d change the hands to something more simple and use the previous gen sharp indexes instead of the current curvy ones. I’d also remove the oval counterweight and use a circle.

However VC Overseas is the outdated one IMO. It tries so hard to incorporate the Maltese cross, which isn’t a interesting piece of design in the first place. 222 was smart and different. Current gens are just weird watches with competing typefaces, dated hands designs and probably one of the worst bracelet I’ve experienced.

I’m not giving any organization a free loan for a long period of time. If it were 2-3 months, i could handle that. I wouldn’t pay in full for a year plus wait. My AD told me around next November/December, no deposit. Good enough for me.

Speaking personally would not put a deposit down and wait for any watch, and if more thought they same, then perhaps we could back to normal before all these so called AD games.

I don’t understand some of the answers, if it is guaranteed I could wait 2 years.
Have to say I got my panda in July 2016 and the black version November 2018.
But 2 years is acceptable, if you don’t want to wait, get another option or buy grey today.

This ^ on all counts.

If I did want one, I'd speak to my AD and say that I'm after one (and they always come through for me eventually), and then I'd just forget about it until it arrived. I don't spend 24 hours a day thinking about when a watch is going to show up, so I'd just kick back and forget about it.

Well I would expect that down to many not wanting to buy, or not a fan of the modern day Daytona. Lets be honest here, yes it has a fine movement that myself would rate one of the top 5 chronograph movements made to date. But it must be one of the most hyped Rolex watches ever, and today hype and so called social media dictates to what many must buy today.

Oops, must be honest I didn't read the part in the OP's post about paying in full! Absolutely not, and TBH the AD's I use won't even take a deposit - you just say what you're after (maybe it goes on a list or whatever), eventually the watch turns up, and at that point I pay in full. I'd never pay in full up front in a million years.

With a full deposit? IDK, couple days. Maybe a week. That's about it. Without a deposit? As long as it takes. Not paying market price for it because frankly I don't think it's worth it.

Also the Daytona doesn’t have double-sided glare proof crystal, the case sides are polished & rounded instead of machined flat … like even a sub or gmt. Needs higher water proof rating. The braclet needs to be matte.

The markers should be larger and edged in black (explorer II) for visibility. It’s just a watch for the public obsession.

Overall Daytona looks like a old man piece of jewelry in watch instead of a tool watch. Named after a race. Any why "Daytona" started in 1962(florida … really?) instead of "24 hours of Lemans” started in 1920s (France).

It’s an old people version of Yeezy or Jordan 1 at the end of the day just over hype. No real design, just over-hype.

I’m waiting/saving for a SS PP Aquanaut Travel Time.

Or will sell my soul for Vacheron Constantin Overseas "Everest" Dual Time Limited Edition.

In the meantime I’m getting a Zenith Defy El Primero 21 - which after all provided original mvmt fir Daytona.
