I got a new watch.

Sorry, I refuse to write "incoming" as to me that implies future, and "incame" sounds stupid (and isn't a word). I guess I could write "came" but that could be misinterpreted.

Anyway...

Unlike the rest of you mooks, I can't get my hands on a new Rolex. My dealer, aside from considering me a small fish, probably doesn't care for the fact that nothing stays in my hands or on my wrist for more than a year, and so although I'm supposedly "on the list" my position there seems to go up, rather than down. And I'm not paying grey prices.

Heck, lately I've kind of developed an attitude about how expensive Rolexes are getting, and paying just $9K for a new Sub seems to me to be a bit much. Plus, speaking of much, they are a little too big for me anyway.

So I've bought a few microbrands, been dissatisfied with all of them so far, and now I'm trying Steinhart. I wrote a brief review here for those who want to know more. I will say though, succinctly, that it appears to be running fast (looks like maybe 3 seconds a day) which I prefer to running slow, but overall I'm quite chuffed, as our UK friends might say.

It's a Submariner homage; at only 39mm it fits me well, and cost about $500 shipped, duties paid. Hard to beat that. The printing on the face says "Ocean One" but they call it the "Ocean 39" since it is, after all, 39mm. The original Ocean One was 42mm, IIRC.

Fit and finish seems quite nice, the bracelet has a good feel to it, somewhere between the 5 and 6 digit Oyster made by you-know-who, and as you can tell, I had it slightly customized by replacing the cyclops crystal with a standard crystal.

So I'm happy with it. Merry Boxing Day to me!

Good for you Michael

From the pic that thing is scary close to, well a Sub. As intended I'm sure. Congrats.

Enjoyed reading your post!
Have fun with your watch. A sure thing when you want to leave the luxury watches at home while on an outing.

That looks awesome on you. It looks like the son of the Sub and the Sea-Dweller. Congrats!

Congratulations.
I'm a big supporter of try what you like. Many of the "lower" tier, less highly recognized brands do offer up some surprisingly good watches. Livable watches that you can wear without worry
When I'm not wearing my GMT, I'm currently enjoying a new to me Squale 2002 with ETA 2824-2 movement. Talk about a watch that flies under the radar. Same with my wife dial Mido Multifort. Really pretty good quality stuff for a lot less money.

Looks very familiar having worn my Sub today. Sorry you can’t buy a Rolex at a reasonable price. I guess I lucked out and started my watch jones in the right decade.
