My New DJ with PHOTOCHROMATIC dial!!!

Well, I couldn't decide between a black or a white dial, but luckily Rolex have just released this limited edition DJ with a Photochromatic dial!

Ambient light changes the dial from light to dark, just like those fancy sunglasses!

During the day, the dial is WHITE, but at night, when there is no sunlight, the dial fades to BLACK!

Now I get the best of both worlds!!!

I have speeded it up a bit so you can see the effect below...

PS. I have heard a rumor that they are working on an Electrochromatic version, so you can "flip" colours at any time. They just haven't figured out how to dio it without a battery....

What the....???? Interesting. This is the first time I've heard of such a thing. It sounds like when they integrated a watch with a calculator....

What an incredible technical achievement!

It must have been even more difficult to make it so when the dial turns black, the writing and minute markers turn white!

Any chance they'll introduce one that turns from Stainless Steel to gold and then stays that way?.....of course for the price of a Stainless Steel model.....

Yes they have. Rolex mastered the art of Alchemy many yaers ago. That is why they have been working hard to bring everything "in-house", even their own foundry, so that they don't let the secret out!

They're very similar to my ex. She could change from bright and sunny to dark and moody in a fraction of second with no discernible cause.

It could be e-ink. That only needs power to switch the configuration of the display elements.

It also reminds me of the liquid crystal glass that uses power to switch from clear to frosted opaque.
