I know this would probably be frowned upon in the vintage community. But I was wondering if it's possible to swap the small to a big crown?

Is there a significant difference in case shape between the 6536/5508 and the 6538? Would it look awkward?

I do not foresee myself paying for a 6538 ever. If I buy the cheaper variants it could be fun to temporarily swap the crown.

I believe case tube is different, so you might have to drill out the 5508 case to accept it. Sure you can do it, but why destroy a nice Rolex?

Don't forget that the dial is also different, as (as far as I remember) 6536/5508 were 100m watches and 6538/5510 were rated to 200m. I believe the bezels are also slightly different as well (little thicker).

I think the tube size of the big crown is pretty close to the case thickness of the small font. Would be a bad idea IMO.

I think the bezel is different to not interfere with the larger crown . Possibly a article was discussed on VRF
