Root Beer for review

Hi guys, I'm considering purchasing this one so I'd appreciate your opinion about it's authenticity and condition. Thanks in advance!

First brief thought it must be a post 1999/2000 watch otherwise it's a service dial watch.. S.E.L's look later so probably so..though most I've seen with sels are lugless - anyone else have a view?
Do you have serial letter/range perhaps ?
Btw the 16713 bronze dial came in two v subtle differences this is the slightly more sunbursty dial of the two.
Ps not uncommon for the hands to be slightly lighter on this model than the W/g HR plots.

Thank you. It is made in 2003 or 2004. Can you tell if everything looks fine? IMO it does not look polished, but I might be wrong.

The pictures are not good to conclude but look fine. With that Swiss Made/lug hole/SEL, I’d assume that it is P,K,Y serial from year 2000-2003.

It is difficult to assist without knowing the additional information of this watch.

Ok 03/04 was the cut off for lugged to lugless.
Best if others chime in on the polished not polished debate tbh it just doesn't bother me that much... I'm all about the the originality and don't mind, in fact like, a bit of consummate wear on a 20 yr old watch.
1675/3 ,16753 and 16713 have become the new darlings in last 5 yrs - they were just £3500 in 2015 in UK now £10k plus !

Thanks! The watch is definitely made after 2000, and I was just wandering if there is some red flags on it. I know that the pics are of a low quality, but do you think it was polished?

I know, prices are going crazy and this one is $14K so I'd like to be sure before I "pull the trigger".

No flag flags here. The "polished - not polished" debate is over rated. Most watches have been polished/refinished at some point.

Thanks for your comment. I agree but still, if I can choose, I'd prefer better preserved watch for the price which is already very high. I hope $14k is not too high for this one. No box nor papers with it, though.

Not possible to conclude from your pictures. But I do like the rootbeer GMT. This model has many lovers and haters at the same time. To me it is such an interesting Rolex.

It doesn't look polished but the best way to tell is to see the lugs from the rear of the watch.

Polished or not, if its a decent polishing job it shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m no expert on these, but my thoughts when I first saw the pics was its a possible service dial replacement and new handset, but I’ve had that done on one of my 2003 GMT’s. I had a dial get scratched when the crystal shattered. Before the watch was stopped the second hand swept the crumbs around the dial and that was that. Having the handset replaced at the same time was simply a no brainer with a new dial.

Overall the watch looks good to me but that depends on price as well. I always want to see the movement and inside the caseback as well. Thats always useful to see possible service markings inside the caseback and identify if the rotor has ever been scraping anything inside if the bearing has failed.

Looks like a very nice 16713! A perfect everyday watch to wear and enjoy. Love the 5 digit GMTs, I am a bit biased with a Pepsi! I have always loved the vintage Root Beers.

One of the funniest things is that the last time i got mine serviced, RBH RSC allowed my request of an all brown bezel insert. This time, they forced the two-tone. I took it, but got my all brown insert back and just can't get used to it being two-tone. Gonna switch it out back to all brown. It's a much cleaner look that way...imho

Note: I wear the this watch all the time and clearly the brown insert has seen some sun! But in my humble opinion, the all brown matches up with the dial and TT really nicely.

I can verify that story. Same thing happened to me, and at BH RSC too. Longer abbreviated story. Got an authentication at BH RSC but didn't have it serviced there. Phillip Ridley serviced. Rolex SC in estimate required the TT insert. Shortly after I got it back from Phillip I went back to BH RSC for new insert. They charged individual line items for the insert, installation, and returning my brown one. Pics!

Edit: BTW, I purchased another bezel insert more "period correct" with fade. Wore it for a few weeks and now I'm back to brown again… And there you have it.

Clearly my dial is a service dial instead of your OG matte brown. when my grandmother first gave me the watch after my grandfather passed, i made a huge mistake on servicing and the dial was gouged and destroyed. I was living in san diego at the time and went to RBH and they got everything sorted out. Now, i kinda like the shiny version and all my lume is perfect and continues to be that way after all my wear.

I have to agree but at least they're easy to switch out for a little variety. That looks marvelous! Really nice service box too! They gave me a pouch but only when I went in for the bezel insert. When I sent it in for authentication, 4 weeks later they handed it back to me in a plastic bag and I put it in my pocket. Strange…

Totally! The old school RSC interaction was always weird IMHO. Like a secret club on how to package the box so they didn't return it. I think they realize now that they shouldn't be messing with the process and after-service is just as important as selling the watches (something i think they were really missing). with all that being said, i always found the RBH RSC to be very accommodating.

One thing about the nipple service dial, the lume is still perfect after all these years...sorry for a shaky pic but just ran outside into the lanai and snapped it!

0225222324a copy.jpg

By the way, for 1675/3 nipple, there are no more dials anymore. I figured that with the overhaul, I would get them to replace it and request the parts back so i had an extra, but they are all gone now!

i love the jubilee with this! So elegant imho. i have my grandpa's jubilee, but picked this oyster up a number of years ago. Wear the oyster for daily and switch to the jubilee for nice nights out. one thing i did was have the watch serviced with both jubilee and submariner oyster to confirm authenticity.
