No Rolex at Baha Mar (Bahamas)

Just took my family to the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas for spring break. Awesome resort btw!

They had plenty of high end shops, Rolex included. Not surprisingly, the shelves were empty (sans one WG ladies president DD). I stopped in and asked the sales woman if they ever get any stock and she said "rarely" but to check in everyday between 3 and 5pm. No shipments came during my week long stay.

To be honest, I just feel bad for the staff. Having to stand there all shift with nothing to do. Seems like an incredibly boring time...

I guess this is just how it is now... Crazy.

"Rarely" probably means they rarely sell to tourists like you. Why do you feel bad for them? They just call the clients they want and collect money without putting in any effort. No better time to be a Rolex dealer.

Nothing has changed for the staff apart from all the people looking to buy a $20,000 watch for the $10,000 retail.

If normality returns those people won't.

Watches are still coming into all these shops, they just barely ever make it to the sales floor as they call in people who they want to sell to & sell directly to them

If they were selling steel sky dwellers I would be in there. Girlfriend would be looking after my kids at the pool!

Seriously, does anyone really expect to find the mother lode of inventory somewhere? If an area is big enough to support a Rolex dealer, that also means it has a customer base. Tourist AD’s were a thing in the past but no longer.

John Bull in Nassau had a fully built out Rolex boutique with one ladies Datejust in the entire store back in October.

I visited St. Thomas last summer. Rolex shelves were empty of course but the Patek shop was full of dress watches. I asked about an Aquanaut and he honestly told me they keep them in the back. You have to be "approved " to buy one.

The same thing is happening at every single AD worldwide.
Meanwhile the grey market dealer has every model u want.
What a joke it has become.

You can't extrapolate and say this is happening around the entire world. It isn't. I was in Santorini recently, while they didn't have every hot sports model, they had several watches sitting in the windows at the Rolex AD, including a TT Daytona, all for sale...

Were these new or preowned at jacked up prices?

I spoke to a friend in the car business recently (kind of similar now for certain makes/models now in terms of supply). According to him it is certainly nice to have people walk in and be willing willing to pay MSRP (or over on certain models), the fact that the dealership just can't get their hands on new inventory from the factory frustrates them as well.

A key part of being successful in sales is having inventory to actually sell. Juist sitting around and putting people on wait lists gets old for them as well...

It is 100% worth visiting ADs if you are visiting a new country, it is crazy how sometimes you can find submariners or GMT-Masters casually laying around to be purchased right away.
