My parents live there.

I have some great b/w shots I took of the falls from way above, from a helicopter and from the base of the falls too. Great subject to photograph.

Nice pix, Pete. The thing that amazed me about the Maid of the Mist is that down at the base, it is like a maelstrom, and you really cant see anything but white... those tubs have some serious horsepower to manoeuver down there.

Thanks for sharing, Pete.

Every time I see pics of the falls, I am reminded of the time I was there. I was standing about where you shot the pic of the falls (overlooking the Maid of the Mist) and overheard one tourista turn to his friend and ask (in all dead seriousness): "How do they get that much water back up there?"

I wanted to tell him it was the biggest job the Army Corps of Engineers ever pulled off, using mamouth pumps about a mile downstream.

Do people get that stupid naturally or do they have to work at it.

Great pics Pete!

I haven't been to the falls in a while, since every time we have visitors from out of town (or country) we end up taking them there, so after a while you really dread going there. On top of that I can't tell you how many class trips from public and high school went to the falls.

Now Niagara on the Lake is a different story - I love going there and hitting all the wineries in the area.

This is funny, cuz with my parents living there, every time I visit, I make a point of driving past the falls, just to see them. And yet to me, NOTL is kind of a disappointment... insanely expensive restaurants and hotels and the shopping there does nothing for me.

I don't remember much about NOTL except that it's a beautiful place.

It is beautiful for sure! Winston Churchill said the drive from Niagara Falls to NOTL is the most beautiful in the world. I dont think he had ever driven the Trans Canada Highway through the Rogers Pass in BC, but its a beautiful drive indeed.

Yup the Niagara parkway is a great drive, especially in the fall when the leaves have changed!

Agreed. It is also a great bike ride too... when in full hammer, it isnt difficult to pass touristas as they plod along at 40km per hour. There is also a really nice descent enroute to NOTL going from the base of the Queenstown-Lewistown bridge, past the golf club, and down to the Brock monument. I have hit 85km per hour on that descent!

I think it's natural, but takes a fair amount of effort to maintain.
