The "Holy Triangle"

A contractor introduced me to this concept, I thought it was brilliant:

Draw a triangle on a piece of paper: On one side, write "Fast", on second side write "Cheap" and on third side write "High quality".

When looking at purchases/projects, everyone wants "the holy triangle": Fast, cheap and high-quality. The problem is, unless you're damn lucky you can only ever get two of the three sides. You want fast and cheap? Quality suffers. You want fast and quality? That ain't cheap. You want quality and cheap? Be prepared to follow someonelse's schedule.

I just thought it was a nice, clean way to show people why they can't have it all.

I've had a small poster on my office wall for years that says:

Quality, Speed, Price... pick two and remember you get what you pay for.

In the performance car business we often use something like this to refer to cars. Many customers that liked to hang out at my old stores would ask advice about cars.

Obviously ppl always wanted something sporty, so fast, cheap and reliable always comes up. We always say that you can pick 2 or the 3.
