Trade yellow gold sub for white gold GMT?

I have recently been offered to trade my yellow gold sub LN which is the black face for a white gold BLRO with black face. I have been on the hunt for a white gold GMT and have been thinking of letting go of the yellow gold sub that I have had for about four years.
I love yellow gold, but, I do not wear it much as it is loud and ostentatious, but heck, that is what yellow gold is. My wife always says that I look like an Italian mobster with it which doesn't bother me as I am Italian anyway! So, I am really at an impasse, do I let it go and get the WG GMT which I think would definitely get more usage. My only roadblock is, if I do let the yellow gold go, do I start to desire another yellow gold back to my collection. Yes, first-world problems. Hoping to get some opinions here today. Thanks, folks

If rarely worn, I say yes, if they are similar in age…

I would keep it if you don't need the money, just add WG GMT to your collection.

I would preferred to have them all (YG, RG, WG and Platinum).

If the funds are available then you can always just add the watch but if the YG does not get a lot of wrist time that makes it difficult. I have owned most of the references in YG/WG/PT and at least one I can remember in RG. I liked them all but in the end I currently have a YG DD II that I do not wear much. With values being static, give or take a little, it just comes down to what you want. I would do the trade and see how it goes with wear and how much you like the watch. If it does not work for you trade it and go get whatever else you want. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I understand your dilemma, I’ve been there. I did do a similar trade, and did want a YG back in my collection. Although….I do get much more use out of the WG than the YG. I wear WG in rotation, whereas I found myself wearing YG only on certain/appropriate occasions where I didn’t mind the screaming YG exterior.
When I did the trade and felt like I wanted the YG back just for said occasions, I was comfortable with the fact that I wear the WG a lot more, although I enjoy each one equally. Also knowing I can and will have another YG piece in my collection at some point, but not in a hurry, and will get it when I feel the time is right.
All things equal between the two….I’d like to have both, but when choosing one or the other, I’d rather have something I’m going to definitely wear more often in the rotation, and get the other “certain occasion” piece whenever.

On a side note….I’d personally would pursue the WG gmt with blue dial vs the black dial.
Hope it helps Nicholas.

I'm assuming this is an either or question. If you are not wearing the YG Sub much and would wear the WG GMT more, I'd do the deal. Worst case scenario is you can do a trade back for maybe a little loss. I believe the WG GMT with black dial is discontinued which is a plus. The negative is it looks like a SS GMT. Maybe keep the YG Sub and just add a SS GMT? If I was going to with a WG GMT, I'd personally add the Blue Dial as I like blue and it differentiates it from the SS GMT model with black dial.

I like the idea, as the GMT in PM is my jam. More so than the sub, which as magnificent as that beast is, the YG is a showstopper, and, as you say, can work against you in terms of wearability in certain situations. Along those lines, I've been feeling the pull of the new WG sub lately.

If you're set on the GMT, I prefer the blue dial, but I realize that's a matter of personal preference. Good luck!

+ 1 for PM BLRO w blue dial. Gotta let the enthusiasts know it’s WG and not the basic SS

I would do it but I would ask for a bezel swap to blue from RSC

Yellow gold is beautiful but I feel the same way as you when it comes to wearing it. Just a little too loud and in your face.

With your collection I would Nicholas!

You’ve already got the 619 and a SD43 (maybe others I’m not recalling now) so your diver bases are well covered.

I’d go for it

Isn’t the only thing that matters is which will go up more?

Tough call for me. I’m poverty stricken so can’t swing PM but I feel the blro in white gold and black dial ain’t worth it given the SS version is so close. With the blue dial I’d be a little more interested.

An all YG piece is a real eye catcher, and I think pretty fun for the right occasion. If it was one of a collection I’d keep it for when the mood to be Anthony Soprano hits.

Dropping rarely worn piece always seems like a good happiness move especially if minimal hair cut!

Although I do wonder with all the talk about market softness if it's not possible to just pay up slightly for the metorite.

I would trade if it was WG GMT BLRO with blue face —that is stunning! Otherwise, keep the YG Sub.

WG BLRO with blue dual, yes. Black dial, no, as virtually indistinguishable from the SS BLRO.

Yellow gold has the limitation that it ”screams” at volume 10 all the time. That is something you either love or hate. You won’t have any problem easily rebuying a yellow gold Sub if you do miss it down the road. I would do the trade if yellow gold is out of style for you. It’s not like the WG GMT won’t have its own “bling factor”.

Thanks, everyone for some solid advice. I realize the blue dial is the way to go first off. Secondly, the fact that I wear the yellow gold sub a few times a year, its possibly time to move it, whereas the white gold GMT I would definitely wear a lot more. I like the advice from a few of you that if I miss the YG I could trade back or find another one.
And certainly, the YG like Richris1 said, I would only wear in certain settings, situations that it fits in. I guess I am more self-conscious about wearing it than I thought. Anyway, lots of thinking over the next few days for me!

Thanks again gang

I'd do that trade; the only issue is the only YG watch I like is that sub. WG GMT black face is pure stealth.

Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and do the deal. I like to make pros and cons lists. The column with the most objective responses wins. Sometimes it works out, sometime it doesn't. Neither of these pieces should be too hard to reobtain if wanted. I'd say the WG GMT is more rare than the YG Sub.

I understand the dilemma but I fancy looking like an Italian gangster for a while my goal is to get a yellow gold gmt but if you’ve had for 4 years and enjoyed it then why not a great dilemma to have :-))
