Harder to get from an AD.

For the past few days, I've been contemplating on what's next and what to request from my AD. Some background, my AD was kind enough to offer me a SS Submariner with no prior purchase history. I am extremely thankful, considering that they are not hurting for business and demand far outstrips supply.

Now, I do want to build up my collection little by little (1 or 2 watches a year or even 2 years) I was wondering what's a fair reference to ask my AD and actually obtain it - or a game plan to build to the refs that are harder to obtain.

Here is what I would like to have within the next 5 yrs or so:

(1) 126610LV

(2)126710BLRO

(3) 116500LN

(4) 126715CHNR

(5) 228238

Please advise- Thank you!

Cool, so you just want only the hot references like every other person. Original.

2 Daytonas in 5 years? In NYC? Spend a million dollars and you’ll be well on your way.

Probably tough to give advice on this topic without shopping at your AD. Seems very hit or miss. I feel the sub you picked up is one of the easiest ones to obtain. The others on your list are much more difficult.

So.. no advice, but wish you the best.

Asking for two Daytonas in two threads. Numbers game I guess.

You probably should choose a non sports/hyped model. Probably a SS/two-tone Datejust 36/41. Not saying these models are not desired, but i believe they are generally easier to obtain than the ones you listed.

First your AD did you no favour in offering you a SS Submariner with no prior purchase history, thats what they are in business for to sell watches. So just ask the AD in question what watches you want he/she will give you one of two answers either yes or no.

Are you really passionate about one of these references?

I definitely wouldn’t bring a list

That said, IMHO you’ll have a better shot at the DD as it’s a high dollar purchase as opposed to a hot SS reference.

All these watches are Uber hype pieces - I doubt you can get them without buying anything else first tbh. If you want to be smart ask for a Datejust or an Explorer or something. Then go for the BLRO and then the LV. I doubt you will get them within two years though. You’re not exactly aiming low. Or the Day date could be most realistic depending on the dial. Tough these days

Considering a two tone might be an option. My AD indicated there would be a much shorter wait (but still not soon) for a TT Daytona vs the Panda.

I was able to purchase two 2 tones last year with no prior history. Rootbeer and skydweller. Since then been crickets. Asked for Pepsi/Batman and YM2 stainless.

The easiest way to the steel references would be to buy the PM ones first probably.

If you go in wearing a watch with protective stickers, they might think you're a flipper though, so be careful. (Only mentioning because of another thread where you were inquiring about this).

Goodluck with the hunt!

I totally agree, that’s the reason why when I inquired about a watch I went for the easiest reference. But I’m struggling to see what’s the best option next - without sounding crazy by asking for a panda on a second purchase lol

There’s about a hundred thousand instagrammers out there with the same exact “collection”. So keep it at, it’s very doable. Enjoy.

May have a better chance asking for a PM piece first then another hot SS piece, although a few ADs have been telling me PM will be harder to come by this year.

Don't state the obvious!
Besides the so called "instagrammers". Many enthusiasts also find those references very appealing regardless of the hype. I am also not wanting to get all those watches in a short period of time. I have patience and time. I wanted an advise on what to ask for next without being unreasonable.

What’s not over msrp or hyped right now? Even DJ, Two Tones and PM are hitting record highs.

My question was quite simple, but what should it be the most reasonable ask.

two tones and a lot of PM models are still possible to get through ADs if you try. you have literally no chance to get any of those steel models, especially in nyc

Not sure why OP is getting so much flak. Let’s try to be be friendly and helpful.

OP definitely go for the Day Date next. There are too many customers who will only buy SS Professional, and this will establish you as someone who will buy other things as well.

Let’s give OP a break here. He is just asking strategically what watch he should ask for next. At least he knows what he wants and it’s not an investment question. The Daytona is definitely something you would not ask next. PM Models have a high price point and filter some buyers, but from who I spoke to, PM models are harder to come by these days.

The day date most likely would be your next ask if it’s not the olive green dial. I would then ask for either the 126610lv and 126710blro. Don’t be afraid to ask your ad as long as you are genuine about it. Good luck!
