Trading Speedmaster for OP41
Hello All,
I have a 1861 Speedmaster Professional. This is the Speedmaster prior to the new release. I am considering selling it to fund an OP41 with a black dial. I feel like this watch would be a great daily beater. What is everyones thoughts? I also have a Submariner No Date and a Two Tone Submariner. Thank you |

Trading Speedmaster for OP41
I am not the biggest speedmaster fan. That said, I would rather have one than an OP.

I had the same Speedy and didn’t enjoy how it wore on wrist. This was mainly down to the bracelet which appears to be a common complaint amongst owners. I gave it a second chance with last years update and now love this watch - the new bracelet makes all the difference.
If you’re feeling something similar I’d recommend getting hold of one of the new bracelets before moving it on. Regardless of the above, I think I’d trade in one of the subs before the speedy. Not because I think that the speedy is a better watch, in fact I much prefer the sub, but because I’d rather have the variety of three watches. A chronograph, a diver and a casual everydayer would be a solid collection. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I have a Speedy (Moonwatch) and had an OP (36 - which I prefer to the 41)
Both are great. The OP is a great do anything watch. The perfect one watch actually. Both are no-date, which I appreciate. But, when I decided to pay off my mortgage it was the OP that went to fund it. I think may be because of the Speedy's history and relevance to my birth year... Tough choice TBH. A depends what you need the watch for at the end of the day. My OP was my office/work watch and I stopped working in an office. That may have helped the decision too.

You could trade in the Sub Date and have 3 great no-dates..
They would cover all bases I think, apart from a pure dress watch (which the OP could cover very well on leather).

Trading Speedmaster for OP41
I’d keep the Speedmaster. It’s the one watch I have on a leather strap (for now) and it’s a nice change of pace for me. I also have a Submariner too.
Also, if you really need a daily beater—and for some people it’s justifiable—I’d keep the Speedmaster and go down market. Maybe a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical, Sinn, or something like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd do it I think the black OP41 is best watch in the range to tick my boxes.
![]() Or you could save good money buying the same as me in my signature.

Go try a 3861 Speedy out. It’s much improved over the 1861 (which I was not a huge fan of).

I wouldn't swap a 3 sub dial chrono with a date function for an OP but if you don't like the Speedmaster there are plenty of options, like the Aqua Terra 150m 38mm (with some nice dial colours) or an OP, or anything you like.

I am not a fan of the OP. The Speedmaster is Iconic and along with the Submariner and a few others are cornerstones in a lot of collections. There are some great bracelets that are available for the Speedmaster from Forstners and several other manufactures that work better than the OEM. The Speedmaster is also a strap monster and you can do a lot with it on leather or NATO.

I sold my speedmaster in the past and don’t miss it. That said, you are not going to make much money from it. Omega doesn’t hold value.

I think you should keep your Speedie.
You own 2 Subs and a Speedie which adds variety and a useful complication to your collection. Also, as others have said a Speedie works with every Nato, rubber and canvas strap going which adds loads of possibilities to mix things up in the future. 2 Subs and an OP is a pretty boring collection in my opinion. |

I sold my first Speedmaster to fund an white faced Milgauss (which I sold later to fund an GV Millie). As much as I like the Milgauss I regretted selling Speedy. So I bought Speedmaster again couple years ago. Now I have both Speedy and Milgauss. Of those two I prefer Milgauss 100% but still could not be apart from Speedy.

Keep the speedy for sure. Can’t imagine any situation I’d prefer the OP, and you have other Rolex already so you don’t need a “one and only” type of versatility.

I've long believed that a Submariner plus a Speedmaster makes the perfect two watch combo, so no, I wouldn't do it.

You already have the perfect daily watch in your Submariner. The Speedy give you something a little different from the rest of the pack

I wanted a Speedy for a long time. Once I had one I found it to be a little large for me. Beautiful dial though. Depending on what is important to you the OP does offer a lot. Water resistance and simplicity. Follow your heart - there are always more speedys

If I was looking to spend a lot of money for a simple watch to replace a Speedy, ( which I would not), I'd be looking at GS before OP. The devil's in the details.

I would sell the Speedmaster, but then I've never cared for chronographs. Having said that, and as Omegas don't seem to hold their value as well as Rolexes, try not to take too much of a hit with the trade. That would be a shame for such an iconic watch! The black dial OP 41 is indeed a lovely "do-all" watch but some find it too big for their wrist. Good luck...!

Draper you should go see and try one on in person before committing to the swap. For the longest time I wanted a bright blue OP41, I tried on the coral red OP36 recently and was really underwhelmed.
It is probably the most understated watch I have ever tried on lol. Btw I have a 3590.50 Speedmaster ![]() |

I’m biased. I can’t think of many watches I would trade for a Speedmaster (monetary value not considered). And the 1861 version to me is the most perfect iteration that is sturdy, true to the classic designs, and yet modern enough to not be a “fake vintage”. I’m also on the camp who thinks that it was the best bracelet and clasp and that the new version is a total letdown.
Can’t see that I would ever want an OP as that is in my book just a boring watch bearing the Rolex name for those who think that’s important. I’d trade the two-tone Sub for something else instead (maybe a 36mm Explorer? Or the new Tudor GMT? Or an IWC Pilot 43?) Speedy and no-date are iconic and keepers in my world. |
