Right Handed - Watch in the Right?

All this talk about the Left-hand oriented GMT got me thinking. I am actually right handed but I wear my watch on my right wrist. Don’t know why but ever since I was a kid, that’s how I wore it.

I am curious how common this is. Yes, my watch tends to be worn out more with desk dives et. But, I enjoy my watches!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I used to, and like you, started as a kid.

When I bought my first luxury watch, the AD kept placing the ones I was looking at on my left hand... and explained why (using the dominant hand to work any complications/setting the time/date, etc). It made sense, and stuck. It felt natural to have it on my left wrist pretty quickly.

Some do, but most don’t.

Same here. I wore my watch on my left wrist until I had an accident when I was 17 and broke my arms. The left arm took longer to fix and my right wrist became available sooner for watch wearing.

I've worn watches right wristed since. When my left wrist was healed and back to normal I had become accustomed to wearing a watch on the other arm and I didn't revert.

It doesn't make any difference to me which side the crown is on although the date at 9 on the new GMT looks odd to me. I guess they just turned the case upside down and made a new date disk. A cost effective way of generating a lot of sales.

I used to wear my watch on my right arm upside down, like not facing up, but on the underside of my wrist.

When I was a kid I wore my watch on my right wrist.

I stopped when I found that throwing a baseball would also launch my watch for about 50 yards too.

Right Handed - Watch in the Right?

When I was a kid I wore my swatch flik flaks on my right wrist. That’s because I was a natural south paw but the nuns at school insisted that the left hand was the hand of the devil and caned me for using the left hand with school work. Watch just became cumbersome to wear on the right especially with all the writing I had to do.

I remembered you making that comment earlier!! I’m a lefty who wears the watch on my right wrist for the same type of incidents you relayed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to wear my watch in my left since the crown is “designed” to be worn that way. A simple task of my hand washing any big pots/pans would bang the watch to pieces on the side of the sink. So, I guess the question there would be, “is it safe for me to wash dishes with my Rolex on?”

Did the nuns smack your wrist with a ruler too trying to change your “handedness”. They did till my Mom intervened.

I remember seeing that trend quite a bit in the 90s. What was the rationale behind that? Seems like it would destroy the face

I’m right handed and wore it in my right wrist until i was about 15. Then i realized it should be worn in the left wrist. Wearing a watch on your dominant hand is tough. Harder to write, you’re banging it into everything. Probably a reason why so few wear it on the dominant hand.

It is not cost effective at all. They had to make a new dial too hence the higher price.
