Icon10 New GMT Vs. Pelagos LHD

Anyone else find it strange that Rolex decided to move the date to the 9 position instead of leaving it on the 3?

To me, the Pelagos is way more aesthetic in this sense. What are your thoughts?

It’s just off orientation from what people are used to. Someone who owns the watch and wears it day to day won’t notice after a while and the typical position would then be off to them.

The rolex gmt was made for left handed people. That is why the date is where it is at.

Okay. The Tudor is a Left Handed Diver meant for divers that want a crown that does not interfere or dig into their wrist.

The GMT is a regular watch that mirrors a typical watch layout for anyone that likes it.

I prefer the LHD over the Rolex in this case which never happens for me.

I prefer GMT without a date or cyclops

The new gmt was meant for left handed people that have the watch on their right hand. The date window position alone defines that.

Pelagos looks fine. They shouldn’t have moved the date window. Throws it off imo.

Find me where it says that on the Rolex website. Good luck

Agree.

Tag did an Aquaracer with the date at 9 with a cyclops. Didn’t like it on the Tag, don’t think it’s any better on the GMT.

If people were to wear this on their right wrist, it makes sense for the date to be at the 9. Personally, my watch is often half or 1/4 under my cuff, so if the date was on the left side (of my current watches), it would be covered at a quick glance.

The intent is quite simple to infer from the design. It is to better accommodate those who wear watches on their right wrist, even if rolex doesn't explicitly say so on their website. However, as always, wear any watch on your left or right wrist, it's up to you!

The date at 9 on the GMT Master looks wrong to me. But it's something I haven't seen before so it's bound to look strange.

This is a lean approach to coming out with something “new”.

I’m glad to see it as this it probably to remain focus and resources on production.

Yep, I know what you mean. Keeping the date on the same side as the crown, instead of having it at 3 like on the Pelagos, just makes the watch look upside down from any distance, and unbalanced when close up. The old leftie Pepsi GMTs had the date at 3, too.

The Pelagos is a better design. It is more balanced.

I'm already starting to get used to the look. Rolex will probably release the Pepsi and/or the Batman in left hand drive configuration eventually. Likewise, they will probably release the green bezel for right handed clients. It would be wiser for the Rolex brand image to keep this colour way specifically for LHD and leave the Pepsi and Batman as-is in my opinion, but what do I know

Same for me. The new GMT just looks odd to me at this point. Maybe I will come around. I think the color combination also has something to do with it, and I love the color green.
