On the list? Local ad story
So I recently visited my local AD. I have only bought 1 rolex there but it was 15 years ago. I told him I was interested in a WG sub and the new GMT and he put down all my information and told me he would do his very best. I asked about waiting time in general and he said that the most popular models could in theory be 10 years. However he said that the WG sub might be only 6 months if I was lucky.
So my question is, Am I really on the list or do they just give hope to everyone? I know he put me on the list but is it just the list of people that never get a watch? From what I read it's nearly impossible to buy from AD with little or no purchase history and after all I only bought one watch 15 years ago. All to do is wait and see but just curious about your thoughts :) |

From my experience when they give you a time frame like that (6 months) I think you have a good chance of getting that WG sub in 6 months maybe less. The GMT no.

You’d be surprised, white gold is still a sleeper.
And likely if you buy the wg sub you’ll shoot up the list for the gmt Win/win! |

Nobody on this forum can tell you what someone else is thinking, or if they mean what they say.
If you have a doubt your best option is to contact more ADs. Six months isn't long to wait for a Rolex. If an AD told me six months I would be inclined to wait and see. But don't let them string you along past that. |

At least he took your details, in your neighbouring country they don’t even do that despite having bought some expensive jewelry for the Mrs.

Maybe on the WG Submariner. It will be interesting to see if and when this watch shows up. Keep us posted and good luck.

I think it's pretty easy to tell what's going to be hard to get from the mark up in the grey market.
It's always going to be easier to get a white gold sub @ £32k retail that greys ask a 15% premium for vs a steel watch @ 8k retail that greys as a 300% premium for @ £24k. There will be an awful lot less people walking in asking for a white gold sub compared to a steel GMT etc...so your competition is vastly reduced. |

Common question. But reality is there is no real list. It’s just a database of customers with notes about their purchase history and what they’re interested in buying and then maybe a special note.
It’s just easier to say list than database entry or whatever. For example a WG sub comes in, they look at everyone who is interested in that reference. How much they’ve spent, when they got their last Rolex, and then talk to the SA who made the notes. Then they decide based on all the given info. So it’s an organic process not a linear list like some people think it might be. And it also varies AD to AD. Best thing you can do is take your ADs word for it because there’s no upside to not believing them. 6 months sounds like a very short estimate to me. Most folks would love to get something within 6 months. The estimates my AD give me are anywhere from 1-5 years usually. Totally depends on the piece and when I got the last one.

If your information was taken, then you should be on an interest list. This could be a list that gets filled sequentially but likely not. AD have options and can sell to whomever theywant to. Your 15 year old watch purchased from them likely left an impression. You are a previous customer that doesn’t flip watches. You will likely be called by them, hopefully soon. Stay in touch with them and it will work out in the end. Best to you.

Because there are so many searched after watches for sale at the grey market it does mean that several people with a long purchase history has sold their waiting list watches to grey market dealers. In that sense purchase history wouldn't need to mean anything, in my opinion. Each brand does need also new customers.
