Tudor Black Bay Pro vs 58 size and thickness (pics)
A lot has been written about the dimensions of the new Tudor Black Bay pro, mainly about how thick it is. I think officially it is 14.6mm. For rough relative comparisons:
Black bay 58: 11.9mm Black bay (41): 14.8mm Black bay GMT: 15mm Black bay Chrono: 14.4mm With those numbers, you'd be technically correct in saying that the BB pro is one thicc boy. Tudor, however, have done some kind of voodoo magic in making this watch much more wearable than numbers might suggest. Personally, I think Tudor have learnt to do some playing around with case shape (ever so slightly) to give the impression of a much more thinner wearing watch. I suspect the domed crystal is also factored into the height of the piece. I'll let a few pictures do the talking. Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk |

I think the thickness is what makes this watch. The oversized crown and thickness give it presence in my opinion.

Thanks for the post and the pics, much appreciated, but IMO they only reinforce the fact that it's a very thick watch compared to the BB58.

It wears thinner than the Black Bay chrono after trying it. The thickness no longer bothers me, instead it’s the faux patina. Wish they had not gone down that route. But for 3k, would rather take this than pay the premium for a pristine 1655 which will cost 10x more

It's just wears less thick than you would think for a 14.6mm watch imo. Really worth trying on in person if possible if it was the thing putting you off. Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk |

The last time I called my AD was about this time last year when I bought a BB58. That was the first time in about 20 years. Well, I just called them again about this watch.

Thanks for sharing the pictures OP. Does the fixed bezel align to the case the way the BB 58 bezel does, or does it go over the case sides? I couldn't be sure from the angles of the photos but it seemed like it fit perfectly.

Tried it on and yes it is a little thick but I think this and the larger crown give it more of a tool watch look. Right now I am leaning towards the leather/rubber strap configuration. Do you guys think buying the bracelet separately will cost significantly more than the difference ($325)?

Usually yes. My AD said they didn't have pricing for the bracelet yet but usually the rule of thumb is buying on the bracelet and adding strap post purchase is more cost effective. I just didn't want to wait and am happy to wait a while to see if I did want the bracelet. Being such a tool watch vibe, I landed on probably just changing it out for various straps and moving the clasp if I could be bothered. Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk |

So much nonsense spoken on line about this new reference…..it’s an incredible watch and the sizing is a total non issue

I saw the BBP in the metal as well and here is my take.
It's thick like a stack of coins. It looks that way cause it's way too thick for the small diameter. I'm fine with thick watches as long as they are 41MM+. This one simply has weird proportions. |

I couldn’t line them up properly for a good comparative shot. The hybrid strap for the Pro is refreshing though. My SA said the new GMT was their most popular new Tudor release based on enquiries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Big yikes towards that thickness.

That does look chunky. Even more so with the smaller case.

With all the hand wringing over the BB Pro’s thickness, I don’t recall seeing any mention of the weight of the piece, which I find more important.
The 175g weight of the BB GMT is what I personally found objectionable, not it’s case dimensions. IME anything over 150g or so just feels clunky on my 7” wrist. |

It doesn’t feel heavy and the thickness reminds me of a smaller version of the 40mm sea dweller, a watch that does not look big by today’s standards, seriously you need to try this watch before you form an opinion

Yes, I would think significantly more and you probably wouldn’t be able to buy the bracelet only for a while after release. I bought my BB58 on bracelet and just use OEM straps like the Vanguard Rubber which is about £100 then various reasonably priced yet decent quality leather / MN Style straps at around £20 a piece. The Tudor leather straps with the bulky clasp are very expensive compared to going down this route. |

I must admit, I got really excited when the Pro came out as I want a Black daily that I can wear and liked the look of the Pro. I’ve got my name down for one and am going to try it on, but I am now starting to think I will either go for the Black BB58 as an alternative to my Navy Blue one.
OR, what I am getting a little bit excited about is if they bring the new BB S&G out as a steel option upgrading the current BB36 & BB41 later in the year and adding a BB39 option like they have on the S&G. That would be some watch - T Clasp, brushed bracelet with no faux rivets & 150m depth rating with in-house movement and relatively slim case. |

Thanks for the comparison. I have a BB GMT and just picked up my BB Pro (on the hybrid band) a few days ago. What a nice watch. I have a flat 6.4" wrist and don't have a problem wearing either. They are thick, which may bother some people, but I enjoy wearing both. If you like the looks of the BB Pro, I don't think you'll be disappointed wearing it.

I have the BB 58 and picked up the Pro on the Leather-Hybrid strap. I'm stoked on the watch.
I already have my 116500 and 126710 BLRO. Happy to have something more utilitarian. |
