Unsure where to go from here
Hey everyone - a bit of a newcomer to AP, this would be my first piece from them.
It seems I'm close to being able to get a RO from my AD, but I'm having a tough time thinking about the size. I went down to a grey dealer, and tried on the 37mm, 39mm and 41mm variants. 37m felt a bit too small on my 6.7" wrist, while the 41mm felt huge. 39mm was perfect, much more appropriate in terms of size and thickness (I felt both the 37mm and 41mm were a bit clunky). The issue is it seems these are impossible to get, and I doubt I would be in the running for it. On top of that not a big fan of some of the features the piece is missing, despite the obvious historical significance of the watch. At this point I'm somewhat lost with what to do here. The biggest watch I have is a datejust ii 41mm which fits great, and the smallest is a 36m datejust - which is also comfortable. The RO overall felt very clunky for me, and between the 37mm and the 41mm not too sure which one to go for given both feel off on my wrists. I love the look and significance of this watch historically I would note, just wish it fit properly. Does this make any sense? Anyone feel the same? Is there a preferable one I should go with between the 37mm or 41mm? Or is it just that this watch is not for me?

watch sizing
I've gone round and round in circles until I'm dizzy trying to find watches that fit my skinny wrist. When I started wearing 40mm submariners, I convinced myself that they were too big. Wrist sizing can drive one mad, as you will start convincing yourself that watches are too big or too small. It's truly madness.
I still have a skinny wrist, and I now enjoy wearing everything from 36mm to 42mm from multiple brands. Wear a 42mm watch for a few days, and your 36mm watches will look small, and vice versa. Buy what you like... enjoy them...

An emphasis of AP for the RO design overhaul was ergonomics/wearability. It's conceivable that the 15500 successor will come with a bit of a nip and tuck to make it work for a wider range of wrist sizes/shapes (of course, it's also conceivable that the case will stay exactly the same). I'd definitely wait before making any rash decisions about going grey for a Jumbo or 15300.

If you’re ok with a 36mm dj, you’ll be fine with the 37mm ro.
Without any wrist shots from you for reference, I’d hazard a guess that 39mm will fit well but it’s unobtainable, and 41mm will be too big. |

If you feel both the 37 and 41 RO don’t fit you then you shouldn’t even consider, why would you buy a watch that YOUR not happy with.
And if you don’t like the features of the 39, then maybe the RO line of watches just isn’t for you and should consider a different next move? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

It sounds like you may be a little unhappy with whatever route you choose since you don’t like the fit of neither 37mm nor 41mm. Jumbo is worth asking for especially if you explain to your SA your conundrum about the fit etc. Obviously it will be difficult.
I’d say go with the 37 mm especially since you have and like the fit of the 36 mm DJ. However, given the updated bracelet on the 15550, the 15510 might fit you better. I would not go with the 15500 as for you it’s the largest and clunkiest of the bunch. I might be hard getting over that.

This is all subjective. My wrist is 6.5 and I don’t think my 15500 is too big. Definitely not an issue when dressed down in a t shirt and shorts. But it does have a significant wrist presence, no doubt about that. If you love the design and can get it from an AD it’s a no brainer imo. 41 > 37 any day.

Agreed with most of the replies, too big or too small is quite subjective.
How the watch looks also depends on the shape of your wrist, is it flat or round. I have a 6.5” flat wrist, I’m fine with RO 41mm for smart casual outfit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree it all comes down to your preference, and how it makes you feel. So many factors at play, like your lifestyle, age, height/build, etc. Some people like their watch to be noticed, so they go big and flashy.
My wrist is 7.1" flat shaped, but still think the 41mm is a bit too big. Couldn't get the jumbo so went with the 39mm dual time, as well as the 38mm chrono instead - no regrets. |

I would source a 15400sr (two-tone) - absolutely breathtaking in the flesh, and discontinued after 3 years or production. It will keep its value and potentially skyrocket even further in the future (already at 2x MSRP, not bad for a two-tone watch).

Get a 15300ST or older chrono or dual time which can all be found in the 39 case.

I like to think I know a good bit about watches, but seems like I'm starting all over again with AP.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I plan on going to a grey dealer again on Friday to try on the models again. The orginal grey dealer store was pretty pushy so I didn't have time to really focus and take time with the sizing. This Other grey dealer for Friday seems easier to deal with and less so in a rush to get me out the store.
Will report back on what I decide.

Since "appropriate size" is subjective and can change over time, you should just go with your gut. With a 6.5" wrist, I feel my 39mm 26022/25960 ROC is perfect, but I am also somewhere on a list for a 37mm RO (no expectations of getting it though). That is probably in part to seeing how my Pateks fit on my small wrist. I don't like the case to go much beyond 50mm lug-to-lug or the bracelet/strap to flare out too much. I think the 41mm ROs are too big for me, but that's just my personal opinion.
