Officially on the list for a Submariner, I hope.

Went into the local AD yesterday to get on the official waiting list for a Submariner. The salesperson wrote down all my information to include why I wanted the Submariner. I do not have any purchase history with them so I hope my information didn’t get put into file 13. Fingers crossed.

Follow up every few weeks, it’s a pretty realistic watch to get for most people.

When they took all your info to include why you want it, I hope you said, “Flip For Profit, of course!”

Go to DavidSW or Takuya Watches and purchase it there....trust me on this one matey. I have a very lengthy relationship and purchase history with my AD. Waited 20 months for the SD43 - nothing. I finally went to the secondary market and had the exact watch I wanted, brand new, sized and all to my specifications within 48 hours. Do yourself a big favor and don't play these idiotic "list" games with these ADs. They'll take your information and keep you on the line for months and months, maybe even years. In the meantime, you could pay more and have exactly what you want within a couple of days. It took a big bite, but I'm angry at myself for waiting as long as I did to start with. I should have NEVER allowed that garbage to go on past 6 months, tops. Wait if you want, you may get lucky, but believe me the odds of that are long indeed.

You will get it - black subs are not that difficult to get at an AD. I referred my friend to my AD and he got the sub date in 4 days. Fingers crossed let us know!

Be patient. You’ll get a Submariner. At MSRP.

Maybe set a time limit for yourself though. Something reasonable, like a few months. If it doesn't come through by then, and you have stayed in touch with the AD, it probably won't come through. The problem is the prices keep going up on the secondary market.

I get what you are saying. I do not like the idea of basically begging to buy something but the thought of pay that much over MSRP is worse to me.

Yeah I thought about driving 45 minutes to the nearest other AD. It is owned by the same company, Finks. Most of the ADs in Virginia are Finks.

AD's are different. One may be able to get you one sooner than later then again maybe never. Tell yourself what sets you apart from the other 100 people who have asked for the sub this month..

Best of luck!!

The reason you are getting so much different advice is because it really depends on the AD, the SA, & your relationship with them. There is a chance you could sit in the list forever or you could get a call in a few months on the Sub.

Maybe try to get some gentle feelers

If they are saying ‘very long wait’ ‘long list’ ‘going to be very difficult’
It quantifies or gives some idea of where one stands

Vs if they respond with gentler words that can leave one with optimism.

I would agree with those saying you should wait a little while and see if the AD comes through. The reality is that the LN Sub Date is probably the single watch configuration an AD gets the most frequently. It really is not that rare. So they should be able to get you one, but I generally agree that if you haven’t heard anything in 2-4 months, it probably won’t happen.

I'm at well over 12 months and counting with my AD for a 124060 sub, which they know is for my upcoming 50th in 10 days. I even have spend history with them. Every time I stopped in over the last year to follow up and chat, look at vintage Rolexes in their pre-owned case, etc. I was told it shouldn't be a problem to get one by then. After talking watches and life they'd send me on my way with a Rolex magazine or two. We'll see what happens but it's sure cutting things close. This week I'm heading over to the other 2 ADs here to plead my case. I want to give my AD the business and I was hoping to build a lifelong relationship for other future milestones but crimony, it's just a watch.

And worse, having to “forge a relationship” with a salesperson. I absolutely cannot stand hearing that.
