Got the call today…

My AD finally called/ texted me today with my first Rolex offering from them - a Deepsea JC. I expressed interest nearly 2 years ago and got the call today. Finally.
Unfortunately my patience ran out waiting on my AD last November and I sourced my Deepsea JC elsewhere at a premium.

I now understand how exciting it is to get “the call”. Now the dilemma- what do I do? Do I buy this new offering and sell my existing Deepsea JC and maybe come out ahead a bit? Do I buy the new watch and flip it? Buy it and have two? Or Do I turn down this first offering from my AD?
All these thoughts ran thru my head as I’m texting my wife letting her know I got the call and figuring out what I tell my AD. Will I ruin my chances to get another offering if I turn this one down? Ugh…
In the end , I looked down at my wrist and realized how much I love my existing Deepsea on my wrist the memories I have already created with this watch and how excited I was to get it late last year and I decide I will
don’t want to take that joy away from someone else.
So I call my AD, thank him profusely for the call but tell him I already sourced the exact watch and hope he understands. Ask him to move it on to the next guy on the list and hope he is as excited as I was to get the call. And put in my request for the next watch I would like. Hope I get a chance after turning the first down. Time (perhaps lots of) will tell.
Happy with my decision and now looking forward to getting “the call” again and willing to be a bit more patient with a awesome Rolex already on my wrist.

Karma and all that - you made someone else’s day for sure. Maybe next time let your AD know to take the watch off your wish list after you source it somewhere else. The SA may have had one crack and then had to give it up to another SA to offer.

Good move.

I got my 11x D-Blue about 7 years ago.

Though I like some of the aspects of the new 12x and 13x models, I've been through so much with this DSSD, that passing this one along will be much more meaningful than any new D-Blue I could pick up.

Agreed. May not seem like it atm but trust me you did the right thing.

If it was a Platinum Daytona, actually any Daytona, maybe DD then that’s a different story

Buy it from the AD and sell the watch that you bought from grey. This way you are not a flipper and you enjoy a new watch at MSRP :)

Mate if you’re the opportunistic kind you’d buy it and flip it.

If you’re not, then leave it.

I didn’t read the whole paragraph, but if it were me I’d have bought it and sold it. Also I’d never had paid over list and gone grey, I wouldn’t want something so bad! Therefore, I’d not be in that position having acquired one at retail.

Patience is a virtue.

Sorry to say from my personal experience, you may have made the wrong decision. Hopefully will be proved wrong!

Approx 18 months ago, I approached my AD regarding buying a 36mm DJ with blue dial.
A few days later a BNIB came available on a watch a forum that I frequented.
I made the decision to buy it. Less than a week later my AD called to say that one had just been delivered.

I was in the exact same predicament as you and made the same decision. Sad to say, despite my contact and further requests, have not heard a thing!
Bit of a regret for me, as I could easily moved on the BNIB DJ!

You did the right thing. If you flipped it someone else would have had to buy that watch at an elevated price. All of us who know the agony of waiting on a long waiting list thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

The only consideration for me would have been if I wanted my name on the card (old days I know) or if it was to commemorate a special occasion. Then I might have moved the grey one along. I definitely would be making that decision based on what the watch means to me vs trying to make a profit.

You made the right call. Flipping wouldn’t be worth the headache and hassle to me - too much that can go wrong.
