Rolex employee purchase

As I was picking up our new DJ36, my SA was telling me how he's getting himself a rootbeer GMT. He said that they let him buy one every 5 years, but that they have to sign a paper saying that it'll never be sold AND that it must be engraved. I find that interesting, because you don't see a lot of engraved back Rolex in the market, and that's kinda a cool way to keep it out of the grey market.

Probably that particular ADs rule. Not from Rolex.
I’ve never heard of this with ADs I’ve worked with.

I don't see how signing a paper saying it would never be sold could hold up anywhere legally....and why not just replace the case back?

Just seems like odd things to do. But I guess maybe silly scare tactics.

I’ve asked about this before and yes it’s one watch every 5 years and yes they are engraved with the persons initials. They’re not allowed to seek them either. I’m sure they could if they don’t work there any more. As for the discount, some pay full price and others pay the wholesale price. I’ve been told both.

Doesn't matter if it's engraved, all they have to do is replace the case back and it's ready to flip.

Yes I know an AD employee who has taken advantage of this perk, as has his wife (also works at a Rolex AD). However, its 4 years and not 5.

Watches are NOT engraved

It is indeed a Rolex perk. Not AD specific.

My SA had to engrave his yellow gold blue sub. He got it from the AD at a discount. I think it was for what the AD bought from Rolex. Sweet deal if he keeps it forever.

It would be hard to buy an oem case back from Rolex.

I’ve heard and seen the same from my AD. Each one of their watches has an engraved case back.

The person I work with at the AD also just got a new watch for reaching a milestone goal. It was engraved referencing the achievement.

Yeah, not an easy one to find. Out of the hundreds of 4 and 5 digit casebacks for sale, there are two 6 digit ones for sale right now on Ebay. One is for the 116710 and the other is for the 126710.Name: Screenshot_20220414-224611_Chrome.jpg

My rep had his SkyDweller allocated to him and they engraved his name on the case back.

I heard the engraving is "David SW" since he's most likely to end up with it anyway :)

this makes sense, since every Rolex employee needs to be wearing either a Rolex or a Tudor. If they aren't allowed to purchase a watch, how are they to wear one in the store at all times?

In Italy they do have limitations, and quite severe also.

It sounds reasonable the story "one every X years"
Don't know of the engraving, but surely
they have limitations.

Have to agree and many posts like this are purely hearsay, and not always factual.

I expect that Rolex AD employees who work in ADs with this policy can get the backs changed when they leave the AD, if they want to. There are plenty of workshops with parts accounts who will do this. They can also sell the watch when they leave the AD, if they want to. The piece of paper they signed is meaningless if they no longer work for the AD.
