Didn’t like boats. Now I don’t like planes.
Still don’t like boats. Won’t go on one. Don’t like that I’m stuck on one, once I’m on.
Was odd, and had trouble describing why I was okay with planes. But after a poor experience today, I’m not sure I’ll ever get on a plane again either. Never much enjoyed the experience, but I realize now, it’s way beyond that. Learned years ago I didn’t care much for international travel. Even exotic islands lost their luster to me. Visited my folks this week. Had fun. But even the way down, which was mostly flawless (mostly), had me on edge. Then today was a miserable experience and I’m learning more about myself, by paying attention to how I act prior, during, and after. I imagine I’m very lonely in this category. But that’s okay. I always followed the beat of my own drum. And I’ve always been a little bit odd. The good news is I love to be on the road. So I’m beginning to plan some epic road trips. Even work stuff, if I plan properly, I can likely avoid air travel all together. Heck. With much of the world working remotely, working from the car is pretty typical. Hey Larry the Lion, you are first up on the list brother. Now, I know why I was procrastinating so much. It’s almost a real relief to have this realization. Anyway. Happy trails folks.

I don’t know how to help bro, I love boats and planes. That said, self reflection and awareness is the ultimate knowledge. If it works for you, you’ve got my support.
Let me know when one of those road trips brings you my way!! Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Truly at peace with it. Just going to do a lot more driving. And I love the US landscape. I’m going to see a lot more of it.

Unfortunately you traveled on the busiest travel weekend of the year so far. I'd prefer to not fly on major holidays myself. Airplane travel is difficult nowadays, expensive, overbooked and late most of the time. I'm still getting on planes and going to exotic location until my health won't let me. The pros of seeing the world outweigh the cons.
Drive West My Friend! Looking forward to hanging out and showing you around. Maybe I'll head up the Coast with you some too. Make It Happen!

One thing to consider is that offsetting air miles with driving miles may increase your risk.
So as much as you hate it, it may be a safer way to cover distances. |

Superdog, i can relate. Soooooo feel ya!
My dad moreso knows.... Yet yes, as a traveler if you don't have one of 'those flights' every year or so.... and yeah some are more nightmarish than others. Just mention Newark airport to my Muse (HA, and that experience wasn't really that bad!). All road? If so I'd go RV, and eliminate the always-fun hotel check-in too. Btw one of my buddies has been living the Van Life for about 8 years and loves it.

I love the idea of an RV. But I recently flipped my AMG GLE for an X5M. Thinking it’ll be the perfect vehicle to take. My guess is I’ll be doing a fair amount of camping as well as staying in a hotel. I’m grateful that I can likely do this near flawlessly with work. I just need to plan accordingly. If I document it properly, really think about the marketing behind it all, I can visit job sites (we work cross country), and see customers too. This could actually be a perfect blend for me.

Different strokes brother. You do you
I don’t particularly like to fly, but it’s the only way to practically get to Italy and the rest of Europe, sobeit You’ll never see me on boat either, can’t stand them |

I hear you. I’m the same way.
I’ll fly if I must. But, I generally will avoid it if I can. I’m white-knuckled the entire time. Just not worth it. |

If you get an RV under the biz name, could be a write-off-ish plus get a wrap advertising your business. Just a thought.

Planes aren't a problem (yet) for me, but I can totally sympathize with the increasing anxiety as you get older. My issue is with heights, specifically open edges. I'm practically petrified by them. Yet for whatever reason, it wasn't that much of an issue when I was younger.
There's so much about the workings of our brains we don't understand.

I’m with you Seth. Not with boats but I’ll do anything not to fly. I’ve got the Tucson to Bergen County drive down to 2 and a half days. Have done it in cars and on motorcycles well over a dozen times. The nice thing is we live in a beautiful country. I’m waiting on a Outback Wilderness to be delivered and plan on turning it into a mini overlander. Tent, fridge, camp kitchen, solar generator. Should be fun. I’m thinking the XM5 will serve you well. Enjoy!

Enjoy flying but very much dislike the getting to the plan and off the plane debacle. Doesn't matter what class.
Flew with a very wealthy colleague and private changed my world hah. I like road trips but they get really old when you are stuck in traffic and a 10 hr drive turns into 20. When they go normally, I do enjoy a nice drive. Can't hurt for you to try it out. I hope you love it! I have been trying, lately, to remove things from my world that make me unhappy so I say go for it! |

Is it the actual flying and being in the plane or the hassle and aggravation of dealing with the airports and rude jacka**es that seem so prevalent today?
I sure love a good road trip but I think I would go crazy having to spend half my trip time getting to my destination.

Trips of 700 miles or less, I fly myself. No TSA lines, no baggage checks, no wait to board; I just go to the plane, prefight it, get in, and go. Driving to Palm Springs from Sonoma County is eight hours if traffic is moving at the limit. Flying is two and a half hours. My plane gets 30 mpg.

Welcome to the club bother. I just drove NY > Asheville > Hilton Head in my wife’s x5 and it’s the best road trip vehicle we’ve had to date. I sometimes feel guilty dragging my family as I know it’s many times more dangerous. Like you said dangerous ain’t the problem.

I can’t stand long road trips and being in a car for long periods of time. Too boring. Air is the only way to go for me. Other than the normal stuff, I’ve never had any traumatic experiences with flying. Thankfully, my son’s college is only 50 minutes away. My daughter on the other hand is considering colleges 2-5 hours away. I’ll do anything for my family and kids though.

I am with you Seth.
Glad I traveled when I was younger. Because there are places everyone needs to see. But, I no longer have any desire to deal with the issues often involved in air travel. If I had my own plane and were a pilot, I would no doubt feel differently. But I do not and am not. I am fine with two days on the road to drive there. But I detest sitting on the tarmac for 2 hours and not being told what the problem is. I know this does not make mathematical sense, but it is how I feel. I also think that manners of the flying public have declined. Just my perception.

My wife had the same sexperience a few years back. Out of nowhere, after a return flight from Italy, she had an awful experience, riddled with anxiety. So we started to drive a lot more to places like New York, Chicago etc rather than flying. She did get back on a plane since then with some light ant anxiety pills from her doctor.
I say you plan an epic road trip with GS Motor club and hook up with some motoclubs from here on the way, would be amazing! Still waiting for drinks!! |

Same, and I can fly direct to the islands on the German coast from Bavaria where I live. No ferries either. Norderney near the Dutch border to Sylt on the Danish border is 1h one way (rather than a full day by ferries and car or train) and makes for a great day trip straight across the North Sea. Impossible w/o wings or rotors... |
