Vintage Tridor Day-Date

Hi,

I have been offered the following vintage Rolex Day-Date with a blue MOP dial. I would appreciate if someone can comment on authenticity based on the photos

I know this watch as I was considering it in the past myself.
It has all the correct parts, bracelet, bezel, dial for a 18349 tridor.
The dial and bezel are actually crown collection parts and it is in great condition to me.
I see nothing wrong if you want a great looking sleeper.
How much are they are selling it for these days?
Good luck…

thank you for your post. Price is just below € 20k.

the thing that mostly surprises me, is the engraving of the reference number. it says 18349 instead of 18349 B. I was not able to find a photo from a comparible watch, however there are quite some pics from the tridor 18239 which is engraved as 18239 B

Cheers

To be honest I am not sure about whether it should have the “B” behind 18349 similar to the 18239 B Tridor.
But I will tell you what I do see.
The 20k Euro price tag is actually reasonable in todays climate for what you are getting.
It is not a plain Jane 18239.
I see a a rare dial and rare bezel that are likely around 5k each to replace.
And I also see the bracelet and case that look authentic and are not over-polished like so many Tridors tend to be.
I personally don’t see an issue with it but that’s just me.
Perhaps someone else will not like anything about it, but my eyes tell me I would enjoy having it.
Believe me when I say I have seriously looked at it and to be transparent still am.
I’m not looking to under cut you or anything shady like that.
But also full disclosure, who knows, if it’s still available in the next week or so I may decide to pursue it.
Just being forthright.
Good luck with your decision…

BTW - There was a recent thread which noted that, while most of these blue MOP Jubilee DD dials have the usual gold frames around the day and the date windows, some do not.

Understood, the 18349 the OP asked about is a very nice example IMO. Thanks

yes I did, thanks to your feedback

regarding purchasing additional links for the bracelet, I thought it would maybe be possible to purchase them somewhere in New York City, as I am planning to go there for vacation soon. Do you know of any watch maker or jewelry shop where I could ask?

I know very little about these interesting pieces. Question for my ignorance please. Does this model buck the convention on Rolex footings for 70s and 80s 5 digit gold/bi-colour models of T SWISS MADE T , as it has a SWISS MADE dial ?

Well congratulations on an excellent pickup IMO.
I believe you will be shocked at how nice it looks in person if you don’t already have it.

As for extra links, they are available but I would get the watch in hand and compare your links to what’s being sold.
There may be a shop in NY but I would check the online listings to see where the seller is at.
You can find those 16mm links at C24 and ebay but make sure they look as close as possible to the links on your bracelet.
As I mentioned before there are people that over-polish these bracelets and there are also people that sell aftermarket links that do not match the color and pattern of your bracelet completely 100%.
Just pay attention and you should be fine.
Enjoy…

If you look at the photos in the link “miamiclay” provided you will see both “T” and “non T” Swiss Made dials regardless of the gold frames which this watch dial actually has.

For me a 5 digit reference with either dial is fine as long as the correct tritium lume or non tritium lume hands are used.
In this case the watch is a non tritium dial and non tritium hand set which makes since to me.
I believe in that consistency more than the lack of it on watches that fall in the tritium lume time frame.
