Odysseus Prepayment
I called the Lange Boutique in NY in November and was told by the SA that they would accept a downpayment and place an order for Odysseus WG. The stainless steel model was not an option. So, I put down $13K non-refundable deposit. The SA emailed me yesterday stating a price increase was coming and I could lock in the current price of $43K if I pay it off and expected delivery is toward the end of the year.
Anyone have any concerns about this approach? There's enough chatter about prepayment and then a 'bait and switch' whereby the model paid for is delayed and use the funds for another watch. Thanks. |

I got the same thing for the 15202ST years ago.
The full payment locked the price and I got it several weeks after. |

I mean if you plan to get it why not save some $$ if you can
That said I don’t love laying out too much $$ either It’s nice to just get a watch that’s paid for too - feels like a gift! |

If they can't deliver the watch, I am sure you can probably get your money back. I would prepay to lock it in. It is better to have a chance than no chance at all, in my opinion. The only reason not to do it is if you think you can earn a lot more than like 10% on that 30k during the balance of the year, but also have the funds liquid enough to have quick access when the time comes.

Honestly speaking, I wouldn't?
When the money is still in your hands, you can decide at your own leisure whether you want the watch when it arrives. Leaving a deposit/full amount with the boutique gives you no room for manoeuvre should you take a fancy on something else and secondly if the boutique is unable to deliver for some reason, your money is tied down with them. |

I suppose it depends on the size of the price increase. Anything less than 10% and I personally would just rather hang onto the money myself rather than tying it up for the next 8-9+ months.

I had a similar experience with a Moser Streamliner funky blue - popped down 50% and it turned up 10 months later - price increase but was so gaga over it, it didn't bother me.

I'd do it. IMO it cements your allocation and you save a bit too. Win win.

Delivery by the end of the year ?? I was told much longer than that, so I'd jump on them if they can deliver.

You already would be pretty reluctant to walk away with a $13k non-refundable deposit. So....in for a penny, in for a pound.

If they can't deliver within the stated timeframe, is it still non-refundable? I am sure at some point you can just walk away and get a refund (I would imagine).

They have stopped taking Odysseus orders until summer. I agree with locking in price now especially with deposit already. Demand stripping supply on Odysseus apparently regardless of purchase history. I got both my SS and WG early on when no one cared!
