Gift for mom and dad
I’ve put out the bait with a couple of my closest AD’s and got fingers crossed for first Rolex. In my recent deep dive I have found myself admiring watches and the craftsmanship more and more. I have always loved watches ever since I was a kid with an Ironman or a Mickey watch. But the idea of something you can pass down and will still be relevant in who knows how many years is just plain cool. I would really like to get my mom and dad a couple of watches for their 55th anniversary. My dad is a big dude 6’5” and not a flashy guy. Probably wear whatever doing yard work. I know my mom would like a classic DJ with diamonds.
What are some ideas for the old man. 15-25k budget I would say. Really enjoy this forum as I am becoming somewhat addicted 😬 |

How about a couple of matching two tone Datejusts? 41mm for dad and 31mm for mom?
Congrats in advance and welcome to the forum. Special that you still have both parents - that's the real gift to enjoy every day. Best to you. |

I would say something like a sub or SD 43 for your dad and DJ with diamonds for your mom. Might just squeak in for 25K but that's more like 30 with tax. Go with a nice DJ31 fluted for mom and you are well within budget.

Also could take dad to look at exhibition watches, let him think you are purchasing for yourself. Awesome gifts for your parents. |

I’d agree with the SD43 or a DSSD with the black dial. I have the JC, but as a big guy myself (6’1” and 350lbs) I really like the size and heft of the DSSD and I’m sure your dad would feel the same. Plus, based on getting mine as a walk in hopefully the bigger dive watches are easier to acquire and the ladies DJ’s shouldn’t be too hard to get either. Good luck and that’s so cool you’re in a position to do that for your parents

Since he’s a big guy and not too flashy, maybe an explorer 2? Because it’s not as easily recognized by those who arent into watches as a rolex… (not the typical sub or dj look)
Your mom sounds like the easier parent to shop for on this occasion I agree with sleepydoc that you guys should go try some on and see what he leans towards. |

Great suggestions. I really appreciate everyone’s input. I like the idea of getting him to try a couple on. I think I have it whittled down to SD43, Sub with date (the watch I’m getting) and the DJ with black face/oyster bracelet/fluted bezel. Very classic look but my concern is it would be too small.
Spot on for mom and the gold DJ 31 with fluted bezel. |

What about surprising them by taking them to an AD with exhibition models and making a day of it, dinner etc.
They might be drawn to something that totally surprises you. |

Are you sure this is the type of gift they would both want? Not everyone is into expensive watches.
Maybe they would appreciate taking the same amount of $ and sending them on a nice vacation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
