Tom, can you tell me more about that watch. I see it is a L serial so it is a new special addition? It is basically a 005 with a special case back and they gave it the model # 318?

Thanks, I have been thinking about picking up a 005 and it seems like the 318 might be the way to go if I can get my hands on one.

Answers...

It is a Special Edition model according to the owner's manual. The box is just a regular sized box and there is no SE scroll. There is also no COSC. These apparently are done to save costs and keep the piece very affordable. The list price is $300 cheaper than the comparable PAM 005.

The only external differences between this model and the 005 is the engraved back.

The movement is numbered OP XXIX vs the PAM 005 is numbered XI. The BH Boutique has an inquiry into Italy to see the difference between the movements. The preliminary response was there are different components used in the PAM 318. What the differences are is a mystery at this time. The 318 does wind considerably smoother than the 005 that I own.

Hope that answers your question.

You need to call either the NY or LA Boutique...

they are the only ones delivering the 318 model.

It seems that the 318 movement is a cheap one used in fake watches!http://www.rolexforums.com/images/smilies/dude.gif

In case any 318 owners haven't heard yet, Panerai is offering movement swaps.
