Expedition Submariner

It’s my last night here in Cantwell Alaska and I got a little bit of internet so after answering a couple emails I got the idea to share a post. Been up here for the last 6 days exploring what I can of Denali National Park (weather permitting lol) and I brought along my newest addition. A 3 and a half month old 124060 Submariner.
I’ve been very happy with the choice and wanted to share my experience and what all I’ve put it through in hopes of easing some of the minds of folks that are afraid to really wear their watch. Believe me when I say these guys can handle it all with grace. Two separate occasions I had this sub submerged in freezing glacier water. Word of wisdom here, the second time doesn’t get any better. I was told the water temp was somewhere between 33 and 34. So just a hair above freezing. The sub kept on ticking. Took a brisk 4 mile snow shoe hike at an altitude in the neighborhood of 8500 feet. Having taken more than a few face plants into 4 foot snow she kept on ticking. Had a nice long dip in the Chena hot springs where the water is a wonder 106 average and she kept on ticking. Got on a 4 wheeler and rode around the dirt roads in Healy eclipsed by the shadow of the Seven Sisters. If you’ve ever been around here you know the roads are barely nothing more than a wide dirt path with thick mud and potholes. So after being shaken, bumped and baptized in the wet dirt soup she kept on ticking.
I will say I have noticed it runs a tad bit slower when I’m wearing it 24/7 as compared to resting it at night. Seems to be around -4 a day with constant wear. I’m not super pleased with that but I can just get it adjusted next time I go to NYC.
Other than that I couldn’t be happier with this tool. The bezel isn’t just good for timing pizzas in the oven. I found it rather handy when venturing off trail. I’ll set the bezel so I know how long I went out and can time my return. Another quick word of wisdom, believe the moose signs because they are trotting around. Ran into a group this afternoon on the Vista trail and as majestic as they are it will put a flight instinct in your head mighty quick. I digress. If you’re ever afraid of jumping in the pool or having a sit in the sauna while wearing a professional model fear not for these watches can handle all that and more. Trust the engineering and keep your crown screwed and it won’t let you down.

Great write up! I take my Exp or Exp ii backpacking about 25-30 days/year. They love to get into the backcountry and show off a bit!

I think internet speed may limit his rich media uploads in the boondocks.

You are intrepid hiker this early in Springtime up there - hope bugs are better though.

Moose and Subs…I bet it thought, “Fake” - I mean how many Subs does a Moose get to see in its lifetime?…

You are right about the cell service! I’m gonna put up some pics when I get to the airport Wi-Fi today.
The mosquitoes are in full force already. Ran into a few good swarms of them around horseshoe lake. I’m from Georgia and when the locals said watch out for the skeeters I was thinking I’m from the south these won’t phase me. Yep I was wrong about that.

Thanks for the love guys. I popped the question at the surprise glacier. Thought it a fitting scene for such a surprise. If you haven’t been to upper Alaska I can’t recommend it any more. It’s beyond beautiful

A dream destination for me. I could spend the rest of my days there, living off the land. Who knows, maybe one day...
