If you had to complete a two watch collection, first being a 14060m

Which would you choose and why? 124270 or 126610LV

I would chose the LV just because it would feel a bit more special and nothing wrong with having 2 subs even if they were gonna be your only 2.

Those are pretty limited choices if you are only going to have two. I’d do a 16710 or speedmaster or both

I have a 14060M and when I think about another watch I think about something really different. If a Rolex then maybe a DD. Or maybe a Santos or a Sinn.

I’d be inclined to get an exp ii instead. Or a chrono. Or a datejust even - basically something else that’s not another sub.

Neither of these two.
To complement your Submariner 14060M, I suggest a GMT-Master II 16710 with all 3 bezel inserts.

In that scenario, I would sell the 14060M and get the 124270 AND 126610LV. That would make a great combo in my mind.

Datejust, maybe 36mm TT, pyramid dial.

Given the limited choices, the Cermit. The Explorer is too similar to your Sub.

I think a dressy white dial would be most complimentary; maybe a Datejust or OP.

I wouldn’t get either of the listed watches to pair with a 14060m. I would get a 16710.

If you have to get an LV I would suggest the 116610LV. Rolex have gone backwards with the 12-LV.

Just for context, it's between the two options (Explorer and Kermit) only because those are the only watches that I currently have interest in-- I know very vanilla of me.

I’ve been living vicariously through the 124270 Explorer owners on YouTube and RF. The Explorer drew my attention after its update going back to its roots in a 36mm case. I thought it would sort of make sense to complete my two watch collection, land and sea.

Just this past week I walked in to my local AD and tried it on wrist. Needless to say it looks right at home on my below average sized wrist!

I've always wanted the hulk, but with prices where they are it isn't really feasible to obtain anymore, for me at least. Next best would be the kermit, though i've never tried one on, i'm imagining that it may be too large at 41mm on my 6" wrist.

The Submariner is my favorite Rolex model, and though it may seem redundant to own a pair of subs, I thought it would be cool to have an updated model with ceramic bezel, better bracelet, etc.

What I really hope for is that Rolex would consider sizing the Submariner back down to 40mm and bring the hulk back someday. One can only wish!

In conclusion, maybe i'll get the Explorer if and when I receive the call. Then wait for a kermit or hulk in the future ;) then i'll complete my 3 watch collection until another one I like comes along :)

Based on how the 124270 looks to wear on you, I’d hazard a guess that the 6-digit subs will feel too big on your wrist.

I have the 14060m, 124270 and 124273.
There is quite a bit of overlap between the Sub and the Exp.
I find myself reaching out more for the Exp these days for its stealth and improved legibility.
I think this will be even more pertinent in your case as the 124270 fits small wrists much better than the 14060m.

In closing, in your shoes, if I had to choose between the Exp and LV, I’d go for the Exp as I think that’ll wear better.
Don’t be surprised if you end up finding the Exp suits better than even the 14060m.
