15 minutes to change Date? (PAM 88 I series)

Why does it take 15 minutes for my PAM 88 (i-series) to change the date? Starting at 11:45pm, you can start to see the date beginning to slowly change and as each passing minute, you can see the date move in increment to get to the next date. At mid-night, it would reflect the new date as should be.

I don't have an issue with the date changing at midnight (as this is normal with any watch)....just that you would think it would just do it immediately at mid-night versus doing it through a span of 15 minutes. I'm new to PAM so please advise. Is this normal?

I am new to Panerai myself and just bought a PAM88 as well last week. I have never noticed this on mine. I will pay attention to it when I up around midnight. Mine is a "K" series and I'll let you know.

Bebot, if you're wearing it you don't have to wait until mid-night. Just temporary set it to 11:43pm and observed it every 5-10 minutes until it reach mid-night. Thanks for verifying it!

I'll do it when I get home tonight. I am not wearing it today.

I think that's pretty common with a 7750 based movement. No quick date change on any watch I've owned with a 7750 movement.

I had a feeling that it had more to do with the 7750 Valjoux movement. Thanks.

It's normal for that kind of movement. You can verify by manually forwarding with crown.

As I understand Rolex's date change function is instant, which is characteristic to them.

So, who are up at that hour staring at date window anyway?!

LOL, I'm always finding stuff to do so I don't sleep until pretty late. Some of us still have the energy and stay up later.....particularly on the weekends

I don't always take mine off when I get home so I don't have a unwind routine. Heck, I might even take the one I'm wore for work off and put another watch on to go out to dinner. I do however take mine off when I go to bed. Anything else you want to asks me before we move on to actually confirming if the 88 does this in a span of 15 minutes?

Actually, it's hours, between 7pm to 2am (I understood to not adjust date between 9pm and 3am on any watch anyway)

Quote:
The date gear starts to engage with the date wheel around 7pm and disengages totally by 2 am, if you attempt to do a quick date change during the engagement, you will damage the watch.
