AD Discount in recession...
Hello everybody I just wondered what people thought would be a good discount from the AD on a Sub Date in stainless in these times of hardship!! I have managed to get 10% off UK list price so far and it seems good to me. I don't know if it's worth looking round and if availability is good as I don't live in UK at the moment but will be visiting soon but not for long.
Would be nice to hear your thoughts and thanks in advance. Last edited by smoothmouse; 1 July 2009 at 05:56 AM.. Reason: spelling blunder |

I paid full price, it was really difficult to get any discount on the sub date. It's a very popular watch but there is no harm in asking. I am sure you will not get more than 10% from an AD.

You can pay full price now, or wait a few months for stimulus-related inflation to get going real good and then pay twice as much.
How's that for a happy thought? |

The stimulus related inflation sounds like the thing I would most likely get hit with if I keep second-guessing the purchase too long again as I walked away just before the last price increase!! Think i'll just dive in and help kickstart the world recovery....
Thanks for advice |

I got a full 10% of the list on my new Sub Date last month.(Purchased in an already VAT free Jersey C.I) The only requirement was that I pay cash. Very pleased indeed.

Seems like the 10% I was offered is as good as it gets. Better get the book of excuses out to justify it to my lovely wife then!!! Although surely when she sees my stupidly happy grin it will make it all seem so logical.........

Some of our members here sell BNIB Sub Dates for about a 22% discount. Check the sales section periodically. I was offered 20% on an EXP II and 15% of a Sub Date several months ago when I was looking at my local AD.

I just today purchased a new sub lv from local ad. list was $6400, they took $5000, thats about 22% off...they even took a credit card for the purchase. I was shocked. I think its a good price but I just got into this forum so for all I know I got screwed-hehehhe. The Ad I have bought 4 watches from over the last 10 years would not budge from list, I called another and got this price all in about an hour over the phone.

if you find the right AD they will move on price. I just picked up a new Sub LV today list at $6400, bought at $5000...they even took a credit card, I was shocked. The AD I have bought from over the last 10yrs refused to discount, called another and had this worked out in about an hour...give it a shot, hope you get the same results. make sure you deal with the owner though of possible.

I believe the OP was in the UK, so I can't speak to the current climate there. However, I know here I wouldn't accept anything less than 15%-20% off from an A.D., and I would definitely except more from a grey dealer. Just my humble opinion, of course. All of us have different expectations and varying price requirements. |

I am just in the process of buying a Sea dweller from Tempoking, which works out, after banking costs and exchange differences as 19% off. I could not get the SD at my local AD, because it is no longer made.
Obviously you don't get the full AD experience, but if I am saving £800, I can forgo the nice coffee and expensive carpets. When next in Florida, I will drop in on Anastasios and buy him a coffee (and maybe even some carpet), he is doing me such a good deal. The papers will be in my name and dated for my 40th birthday, which is a nice touch, and will help with any warranty claims (as unlikely as that might be). Hi Desperado.
I'm in Qatar.....dealer here just isn't interested and is a more bothered about getting back to talking to other staff members!! Even when I bought last year from him he was as attentive as MacDonalds supervisor. The prices compare to UK retail price, maybe slightly lower depending on the exchange rate. If I buy from UK then leave I can claim 15% off in tax, so it has to be a good deal to tempt me here. Also I think that they don't work very hard to sell as the recession hasn't really made much of an impact and there are always people ready to part with that amount of money still. |

I've had 15% discount from an AD here in London. It was the second Rolex I had bought from him. First was full price.

i received a 18% on the first SS Rolex I bought from AD, that was the only purchase from that AD, and I bought just because it was my birthday. I thin they will discount more in this recession here in Detroit. The same dealer has been offering Panerai Ferrari to me close to 30-40% off

Lol-x... Thanks, i thought so too and was amazed! My AD I have purchased from prior refused to budge... I just went to Rolex.com and found the next closest and called, got the owner. Of course when I bought my GMT IIC TT a couple weeks ago, I went to my local AD, paid full price and now I am quite pissy pants about that but I guess it balances out.
Sorry about the duplicate post before, I didnt think it went through |

Though Kansas City is far away from the UK, I received 20% off, 12 months no interest, and had it mailed to my Illinois home as to drop off tax on my new SS date-sub. I had no history with the buyer, and he didn't hesitate to give me the deal.

Yep, grey is the way to go. Just bought a brand new 14060M from a jewellers in Auckland, list price is NZ$9300 and he's doing it for NZ$6500 which works out about 2500 quid I think. The warranty will be stamped by an AD and dated this week, it'll be sized for me and courier to Wellington included in the price. Very happy with the deal and should be here on Wednesday or Thursday, can't wait :)

it is impossible or nearly impossible to get discount for the SS models in London. Especially the popular models. TT discounts can be had depends on the AD and models.

Now that the world is entering another recession, it's highly insightful to read these accounts of the last recession.
