2 for 1 Daytona???

I have an arrangement where I can trade a 2020 Hulk and a 2020 No-Date Submariner for a 2016 Black Dial Daytona. I purchased both the Hulk and No-Date at retail, different ADs. I love the black and simplicity of the No-Date and the Wow factor of the Hulk, but I feel the black dial Daytona check both boxes. I must say I'm pretty torn. Would you do the 2 for 1 trade?

I would not.

However, I would trade the Hulk and cash for the Daytona.

The Daytona is my favorite Rolex model but I wouldn't do this. I might for the white dial, but not the black. There are many pairs of watches I would give up for a black dial Daytona, but not your pair. You have a versatile combo in a Sub ND and a LV.

Worthy of serious consideration. Make the Daytona a daily wear and never look back.

Technically the values are pretty close, but I wouldn't do it unless a Daytona is your end game. I would try and get on both AD's lists and wait. Once it comes in you can decide which of the two subs isnt speaking to you and sell it. The no-date probably would net you close to the MSRP of the Daytona or at least get you 75% of the way there. I'm guessing you could sell the Hulk and get more than enough for the Daytona, but I would personally keep the Hulk.

As much as I love the LVC I would do the trade in a heartbeat. And you are basically doing retail for retail. Win-win IMO.

2 for 1 Daytona???

Have you owned a Daytona before? Totally different watches, but coming from someone who traded a Hulk and DJ41 for a 116500 recently, I’m biased in saying I would do it…because I already did.

I simply didn’t wear the sub or dj very much so it made sense, and I don’t regret the trade.

I went for the 116500 white dial version though at first I was leaning towards black, and in my limited experience with it, the Daytona-C really is pretty special (hype aside and I know not everyone likes it). The Hulk obviously is too though, in a completely different way…

Tough decision, but having done it myself, I’d say if you aren’t wearing your other watches very much to go for it….but don’t take the white dial version out of the cards.

I wish I had a black dial Daytona to do that trade with you. But I wouldn’t do it if I was in your shoes

Funny you mention this trade. I have been considering trying to trade my 116500 White (retail) for the Hulk and the all black GMT and some cash my way. I can’t wrap my head around it and that is why I haven’t done the deal yet but it is on my mind.
Good luck with the decision.

Tough call for me to choose btwn hulk or black daytona. Ideally hulk and black daytona would make a nice duo.

I think i would keep the option with the hulk. If “wow” factor is part of your criteria, then hulk is your answer. Ss black daytona has slight “wow” but is overshadowed by the white dial unfortunately. Hulk doesnt really have any rivals in the ss sub collection imo.

Thanks for all of the input. Definitely a tough decision for me. I must say even with how cool the Hulk is, it doesn't get more wrist time than my BLNR or ND Sub and I feel like I wouldn't miss the ND with a Daytona on wrist but the Hulk, I just don't know. When its the perfect day for it, weather, outfit, mood, etc. it feels very special. But this is how I feel for the black dial Daytona from afar. I actually prefer the Black Dial over the more popular white dial. FYI my wife is strongly against getting rid of the Hulk. Decisions Decisions.....

Technically you'd be getting the Daytona at a price of ~$18K if you bought both Subs at retail. That is a great deal for the 116500.

Personally, I'd hang on to the Hulk, dump the standard Sub, and wait for the Daytona at retail.

If you like the black dial and are itching to get out of your subs yeah I'd go for it.

Since I'm not a huge fan of the Daytona, but love the Hulk, my answer would be no.

I LOVE the Daytona Black, but I wouldn't do that trade. Hulk and Sub are a great combo and you seem to like them, so no. If you didn't like them or never wear them that would be a different story. Good luck!

Don’t like the “Hulk” (too much green) and like a Submariner with the date, so I’d be inclined to do the trade if the model you’re looking at the current 116500LN. I forget what year it came out. The black dial ceramic bezel Daytona is my favorite stainless steel Rolex in my collection.
