Confused with rolex Serial number

I saw an item on Ebay that have almost similar serial number with my missing watch with the same model #. The different is on the second first digit and the second last digit numeric serial number.
I just want to ask, do anyone know that it is possible rolex made a same model # and put the serial number that are so close or the seller camouflage the real serial number?

Or contact Rolex with your serial number and the serial number that was presented in the auction and see if the one in the auction references the same model.
It is entirely possible to change a serial number... Im sure it happens all the time. If there is money to made doing it, someone is doing it!

Does anyone know Rolex's attitude to giving out serial no. info? Has anyone got confirmation e.g. that the serial no. of a pre-owned watch matches the model according to the Rolex registers?

Thats just like saying you almost won the lottery and you was only one number out, like you state serial two digits different.A bit like telephone numbers that could be very similar and only one digit different but two separate lines just like two different watches

In the USA Rolex does not give out such information. You need to send a watch in to get confirmation
